Question RPM Spikes WOT

Recently the car has been spiking in the rpm range WOT. I can be driving around in 3rd gear about 3500rpm then WOT the rpms will shoot to 4500 or so then drop back down to about 3700, and be fine til redline. Its like the car revs up even more when I am pressing on the gas pedal. While the car hiccups the boost stays the same until after the hiccup, then goes up normally. It does this in almost every gear, what could be the issue?

I just installed a new exhaust from a BR DP, to a Megan Racing TP, to a Agency Power Catback. I have no exhaust leaks from what I could tell, so I am thinking it may be the plugs??

The clutch is still stock from what I know, it has about 34K miles on it.

So when this rpm rise to 4500 then drop to 3500 occurs is the car accelerating then decelerating in speed as well? If not, then your clutch is slipping. Time to upgrade to a new clutch.

sounds like the clutch is slipping and eventually grabs...it's on it's way out so get prepared to upgrade and take it easy on it for now.

If u're putting down less than 400 whp then go for the ACT MB7-HDSS with the STOCK flywheel (don't go lightweight or aluminium for a flywheel). i intalled this clutch on my previous 2004 RS and now i have just installed it on my 2006 MR... holds gr8 .. no problems in high rev shifting.. feels stock...

if u're putting down more than 400whp .. i'd recommend the exedy twin .... read alot of gr8 feedback on it...

I am having this EXACT same problem with my tuned Evo 9 MR. I only have 26K on mine. Was the problem really the clutch? Did you get a new one, and did the problem go away? Please get back to me. I changed to new plugs...did a boost leak test and i still cant figure this out!

I am not gonna get a clutch just because it sounds like one to someone. I really need to find out wtf is causing this. I might have to take it in to a shop for a diagnostic or something.

Quick question y single me out when everyone before me posted the same thing lol? I would really wanna figure it out if it were my car as well but I wouldn thank everyone for what they thought and single u out. We all could be wrong it was my opinion. And my suggestion IF it is the clutch was exedy. Mines held up to plenty of abuse and its pretty decent for street.
