28pis too much???

Hey guys,

I recently bought an Evo IX MR about 2 weeks ago. I am going to try to get it to a dyno this weekend and get some AFR and HP numbers, but I am very concerned about the boost level.

The car runs and drives very well, but it makes me wonder if the guys at the dealership played with the boost controller, or if it is feasible that to safely run 28psi on stock turbo/motor (93oct fuel). Thanks.

The mods that the car has are as follows:
Nvidia O2 Hosuing
Nvidia Downpipe
Buschur Cat-Back
HKS 272/272 Cams
PTE injectors (I think 680cc)
Walbro 255 pump
AMS FMIC
Injen intake / IC piping

Does it spike to 28 and drop down?

I hit 28 at peak boost and drop to 26 psi. Is it safe? depends on timing and afr.

I'm pretty sure it tapers down to about 27 at redline. My guess is that the guy that last had the car had it tuned properly, but I wanted to be sure that this would even make sense and someone at the dealership didn't mess with it.

The car is VERY WELL put together and meticulously clean inside and out.

getting a log at wot will tell you if it is running safe without knock. if you do not have an afr gauge it would be wise to get one.

It's safe assuming it was properly tuned to handle that boost. If the dealership "played" with the boost to get it that high I'd suggest turning it down until you have the opportunity to get the car tuned properly.

It's probably safe, just not very efficient.

Does the car have a Wideband? Your biggest concern I would say is to ensure the car isnt running to rich or to lean. I know many people running 28 psi safely. As long as it is tuned for it, you shouldnt have any issues.

Well in that case, are you sure your boost gauge is reading correctly? I don't see how a stock turbo on 93oct will hold anywhere close to 27psi at redline.

Nothing's safe without knowing AFR and timing. You can melt the cyl head with just 19 psi running like 14.0 AFR at WOT and high octane fuel to keep it spark way too advanced. Safety isn't about risk, although you're probably safe.
