Ok, I am planning to goto home-depot today to pick all of this stuff up. What exactly do I need to go get ? I will buy 2 of those filters and rubber hose, I've already got zip ties, is there anything else that I will need exactly?

Hey all,

Dumb question, is the ceramic porous part of the filter equivalent to having a baffled catch can? In my prior research, I found that most catch cans are not baffled, and posters recommended adding steel wool to help the oil vapor condense out. It seems like this type of filter would work well in that regard? Obviously it works since they're catching oil, just wondering if adding steel wool could be beneficial...

As for needed parts, I guess you need the barbs and teflon tape as well? Any tips on amount or diameter of rubber tubing? I'm a little slow and hand-holding would be greatly appreciated.

I'd like to tackle this as well, since my intake tube to the turbo was also coated with oil when I installed my Samco hoses .

Take care,

Here is mine. I just replaced the filter element a couple days ago.

Excellent, that had more pics and a good list of required parts...

Thanks!

Interesting that he found that it worked better without the filter element... I know that was mentioned earlier in this thread. I wonder why?

Yeah, I'm gonna goto home depot later today and buy all that stuff. I'm not sure how to take the filter element out or anything. I'll let everyone know how it goes and what exact parts I use.

Ok well I finally bought all the crap, it took a good hour to find an idiot in lowes to cut the tubbing, I 1st bought this fuel line but then realized that the diameter is too small so I had to go back and get clear tubbing so the 3/8 peice from the filter fits into the tube. I plan on doing the install 1st thing tommorow morning and then I plan on going back to lowes and getting another filter for the PVC line. Can somone show me on a picture where exactly the lines goto and does it matter which side of the filter goes to what?

Edit: Also should I remove the filter or no?

Whatup,

Read that link on SRTForums, I believe it does matter which way the lines are routed through the filter, at least if you keep the filter in since the filter has an inlet and an outlet. I haven't scouted it out in this car, but the filters just go in series in the breather hose and ventilation hose, check out the diagram on the first post of this thread.

I think the breather hose goes into the MAF pipe (between MAF and turbo inlet), I noticed this when I installed my Samco hoses and found that the MAF pipe was slick with oil. It's on the driver side of the motor. The ventilation side is on the passenger side of the motor, and PCV valve is in the rear of the crankcase I believe. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Question, what type of hose is the clear tubing? It's 3/8 diamter? Did you get it at an autoparts store or at Lowe's where you got the filter. I ordered the filters and barb kit thingies online so I won't get it till next week, but I can go get the tubing and clamps in the meantime.

Thanks,

these little water traps, that's how they are used with compressors, and less importantly for us, filters, are not directional.
I decided that I wanted the air diverter that is part of the filter. So I cut a hole in the bottom of the plastic filter element. (since it has been reported that the filter seemed to not help in oil separation) don't know if it will help or not, the air should not be moving that fast through the hose so the filter should not impact the breather aspect.

I did this mod some time ago. I took the filter out, and have no oil in the intake tube. It is well worth the little bit of time and effort to make it work. It also makes for a quick visual inspection of your oil condition and the crud that the engine spits out.

Well I just installed the 1st filter and it was pretty simple, I mounted it to my front tower bar with zip ties. I had to remove my upper ic pipe just to pull it up so it was easier to get to the nipple on the intake to put the new line on there. I re-used the peice that was over the stock hosing and put it onto the new line that went down there just so it wouldn't heat up so much. Overall it was easy, now I just need to know where to install the other filter and what lines I tap into for the PVC, anyone got any pictures?
