I found some revised hydraulic no tick lifters. I was wondering if lifters can be changed without removing the cam. I have some lifters that are ticking more then normal at idle. When I installed the cams I bled all the lifters. Thanks for the info.

 

You must pull the cams...

 

Back in the '90's prying out the followers and replacing lifters on DSMs without removing the cams was the most common procedure. I don't know what would be different about the Evo engine.

When it came time to replace the lifters in my DSM engine (lifter problems were near universal) I couldn't bring myself to do it. I pulled the cams.

 

There is an actual tool to do it in car... I have one...

Ive done it on DSMs dozens of times with the cams in and IIRC its the same process for an evo. You can always check on Vfaq.com for pictures on how DSMers do it.
