Unhappy Another stock block bites the dust...

Went to IFO Gainsville and ran in the Forced Induction Sport class, and placed 2nd, car ran flawless (minus the clutch) all day long, and drove the car back to the house, everything seemed to be fine. Drove the car for a few more days, no symptoms of rod knock or loss in power. Scheduled an appointment with AWD Motorsports for a clutch rebuild and left the night before, drove 5 hours down I-95 and stayed at a hotel for the night. Got up the next moring and the car started up fine and drove over to the shop for the clutch job, again no signs of problems. They pull the car in, do the clutch job, afterwards they start the car on the rack to adjust the clutch pedal, the car idles for about 5 minutes and shuts off... they try and recrank, but something was binding. They pull the starter off and try to rotate the crank and it doesn't budge! Ah crap... get the lump in the throat and the nervous shakes, we drain the oil and it feels like maple syrup and is filled with bearing material... great! Pull the pan off and it is filled with bearing material, and large peices of material EVEN BETTER!

Big thanks to Mike for being understanding throughout this evolution and all the help getting me to the airport for a rental car. I went with a Buschur 2.4, and the new AWD 272 cams, supertech springs and retainers for the rebuild... block and crank was sent to Buschur early this week... Already have a replacement oil cooler as well, that will be sent down later next week.

Once AWD tears down the motor we can actually see what the culprit was... from various conversations I have had, it was either due to balance shafts, or a faulty oil pump. I am leaning towards the oil pump... but won't know until the motor is torn down and inspected.

I now have an oil pressure gauge waiting at the house that will be installed immediatley after the car is back to the house!

Damn man... Tough break.. At least you didn't blow it on the way down and have to get it towed.

Good luck with the new build and look forward to see what kind of new power you make!!!

Sucks man, but look on the bright side... It broke AT the shop, not 5 hours and a 400 dollar towing bill away

that sucks, i just had to do this, its not fun.. but awd should have you up in no time since they will be top priority to get the motor from BR im sure. they do ALOT of business with BR.

My reason was for running low on oil though. I killed the crank and all bearings and the turbo. My 2.3 didn't even have 1500 miles on it after I checked odometer and
stuff i was shocked. for some reason I thought i had 5k on it. Now you can atleast enjoy some nice torque without worrying about grenading the block every time
