5 spd back to 6 spd?

hey guys im about to pick up a white evo 9 mr that has a swap to 5 spd. its not a built tranny by shepard or anything like that, just a stock gsr 5 speed.

my question is if i was to go back to the original 6 spd mr tranny what would i have to modify?

will the 5 spd clutch and flywheel fit or would i have to buy a different one?

Ive changed a couple of trannys on front wheel drive cars but never on an evo...

anyway thanks guys

whats ur reason to switch back to the 6spd? Its convenient to have a 6th gear on the highway but the 5spd is regarded as the better tranny. the reasons are many, search if u really wanna know. i would stick with the 5spd as is unless u have a REALLY good reason for wanting the 6spd

keep the five speed.. my MR ate 8 six speeds.. still on my first five speed

if you really want to switch, the 6 speed is nicer to drive, but the clutch is the same. the only thing you will need to change is the shifter cables, shifter base, tranny mount, and the harness for speed sensor and reverse lights

the 5 speed has been known to handle more abuse (even though I've gone through 2) but the 6 speed is a lot better of a dd tranny, especially highway.

if you decide you sell yours, hit me up! I am in the market for another tranny!

The gearing for 5th in the 5 speed is VERY similar to the gearing of 6th in the six, so they are almost identical on the highway. The six just requires more shifting.

Stick with the 5, and if you want that extra gear, and want it to actually be useful, call Shepard Racing.

idk guys im not really putting too much power down. i hear the 4 gear on the 6 spd gives out past 450bhp...

i just think since its an MR it should have a 6 spd but it seems that i might have a ton of work on my hands

Or get a built 6sp from Shep. That'll solve your problems

So why not look for another MR with the actual 6 speed so you dont have to hassle with the swap

i love my 6sp evo! i had to other 5sp evo 8's and the 6sp drives ten times better.. sux they cant handle as much hp/tq as the 5sp but that doesnt mean they cant hold power id say 400 on a md is about the limit you want to be at with the 6sp but that also depend on what your using the car for

yea i guess your right. im just getting a good deal on this one. its a white evo which took me forever to find and its got the red stitch seats.

this guy wants to swap trannys when i pick it up but he is like 15 hours away. i cant really validate it runs fine without me seeing it.
