whistleing sound when boost goes more than 10 psi

hey guys i'm not an evo owner but my friend is....he have an fp red turbo with an ams intercooler , injen pipping and tial bov...he ask me to come to the forum to ask about a weid sound that he listens to when he press the gas pedal and boost start to come up...it is like a whistle (kind of the sound a supercharge produces)...i thought about boost leak but he said the boost gauge shows 22 psi and that's what he is running so according to the gauge there is no boost leak...any comments on these????

Probably just the sound of the turbo.

Boost leak!

The gage won't give any indication of a leak as the turbo will just make up and run to that 22 psi setting. Even a stock turbo will still get you to 30 psi, if that is your target, even with a boost leak; it will just work harder to get there (bad/overspin).

Boost leak test...it only takes like 30 min.

Building pressure doesn't mean you can't have a boost leak.

Do a proper boost leak and you will be surprised at what you thought was a sealed system.

That could be a couple of things. Like: normal turbo spool, blades hitting the housing, exhaust leak past the turbo, obstruction in the exhaust. Also, what kind of boost controller is he using?

i know the fp red sounds hard and i love the sound but this is not normal...my ralliart is turbo to and when he did that sound once it was boost leak...but in my case it didn't showed any boost in the gauge...i think it also depends on where you have your gauge connected...thank you guys

Then possible its your t.b shaft seals they make this type of sound..My suggestion is do a proper boost leak test again and listen carefully for the tiny leaks..One my thing check the turbo housing it's self if the o ring goes bad in it can also whine..

Do a boost leak test to be sure, but my 80mm fp red almost sounds like it is a super charger. It happens right at the onset of boost until about 5 psi. It goes wwhheeee...
