What Could this be from???

Hey Guys..

So I got a quick question..Another member posted up some pics of what could of caused all the shavings in his oil filter.. IMO it doesn't look like a spun bearing by the type of shavings but was wondering if you can chime in and offer some of your opinions on what may cause this...Ill go ahead and post the link that you can click on..

My first thought was a oil pump failure, Given the metal flakes and the fact that the oil light was on. Even if it turned right back off. Spun rod or main bearings are usually pretty noisy, and he did mention it was making some noise, but from what he described it didn't sound like a completly messed up bearing. He'll probably have to remove and tear down the motor and look for scoring and evidence of failure to know the problem for sure. Unless its the Turbo......

check compression for cyl. 4 ( the one with the oil at the spark plug ) against the others with cold engine ( bigger gap between piston and walls )
Could be the piston starts to melt / crack due to detonation.
Flakes looking like aluminum parts, so Piston or Oil pump comesinto mind.
