No about the battery and yes about the throttle body shaft seals there very common on the evo's to have that issue..I hope you putting the milspecs cause if your use the oem ones they will leak again very fast..

You have a different issue going on about the boost only hitting 10 psi which malaka told you this?????I had a boost leak so bad in the throttle body that you can hear it if you were standing in back of my car and I was hitting 30 psi with ease.

so i thought the shop replaced the alternator wit an OEM one since i got charged 250 i found out it was a refurbished one and its the second one that has over charged my car :X ..

has neone had any issues wit refurbished alternators ??? bc this is really pissing me off and i just keep spending money when the problem is obvious

the only reason a battery would over charge and leak is bc the alternator is giving out too much power and i had it replaced twice wit this refurbished curse !!

anyone have any issues wit the refurbished alternators for evos ?

OEM alternator is all I will recommend due to a similar problem happening to Jason's car down here. He also had a grounding issue which resulted in other problems. His battery was in the trunk and when the acid got all over it messed up a lot of stuff (bottom of trunk lid, carpet, back of seat, inner trunk liner, etc) After going through everything on his car he was able to get it all sorted out and after putting the correct OEM alternator in, hasn't had a problem since. Feel free to PM me for more information or if you have any questions. BTW if you decide to go to STM you will be in excellent company and an awesome shop.

This is very common with Autozone/Advanced Auto refurb'd alternators. I went through 3 refurb'd alternators in 2 weeks from Autozone. The first two failed, the third one was volting 16v and ended up destroying the battery.

so last nite at the shop another alternator went bad and it blew out fuses

however the car started and was on for 5 minutes then died

they tried telling me it could be something wit the wiring and alll that

but if the car turned on and stayed on then all supporting harnesses and grounds should be okay since they all got verified of being completely fine

so ive come to hte conclusion that it has to be because its a refurbished alternator

im almsot 100% confident when i put a oem alternator everything will be fine

any insight would be great !

From the beginning, everyone told you go to a reputable EVO shop. Did you? People are trying to help you here but you are not listening.

First, use an OEM alternator like couple people stated already. Second, do a boost leak test. Like others have stated, there is no way you will lose over 10psi of boost over throttle body seals.

Invest in some simple tools and save yourself the headache. Get a boost leak tester and search the how tos if you arent sure how to perform a boost leak test. Its very simple. This way you know at 25-30 psi or whatever where you have leaks at. Fix those leaks then perform your boost leak test to verify. Check to make sure all your vacuum lines are in good condition and properly installed. Next dont test your alternator buy disconnecting the neg temrinal while the car is running. You can do it that way or you can get yourself a voltmeter and connect to your battery to see if your reading ~14.1-14.4 volts while the vehicle is running ( much safer way imo). IF not test your battery, if that is good, inspect the connections. Get the alternator tested and inspect the connections. If all connections good and battery is good but you are not reading about 14.xx volts with it running then likely your alternator is bad. If you have a bad ground you will have issues as well so check that too. The evo is not gonna run right either if you dont give it clean voltage.

The boost leak was fixed and the shaft seals and gasket were replaced however this electrical issue is still there

All grounds r good the harness is good the ecu is good the shop is tryna tell me there's a major electrical issue when I KNOW its bc there isn't an OEM alternator

So I think I'm just gunna trailer the car home and do the alternator myself bc I'm tired of hearing excuses from the shop and spending more money on trial and error

Bc the only reason why I'm blowing fuses and the battery is bc of the refurbished alternator bc that's the only thing that controls the output and build up of energy being put in my car

Honestly I don't trust any aftermarket alternator on these cars. I'd take a 60k mile OEM alternator over an Auto store special any day.
