***I would like to mention the rumbling sound you hear on the 49 second mark is the road and not my car.***
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHGlsebPjjs
I made this video on my way back from picking up my car from FL so even though it says blown transmission, it may be something else.
Anyone ever hear this noise? and what did it end up being?
I first thought a bearing in the transmission. Then I thought maybe bad clutch install or throw out bearing. I got under the car today to inspect the pressure plate, tob, flywheel and from what I could see through a tiny hole it all looked legit. There was some pinkish grease on the shaft that the tob slides on but I'm guessing that is normal. I still think it's a bearing because it shifts into all the gears (hard to come out of 5th though) including reverse. I throw it into gear, no noise, and release the clutch and the car goes. the noise comes when I fully release the clutch regardless of it being in neutral or in gear.
I will be renting a tranny jack next weekend (I hate how I get paid) so I can for sure know by then but I'd like to go immediately to what it is when I remove the tranny.

I don't need a new tranny, i wouldn't think. I need to get in it and replace whatever it may be that is causing that noise. and that's what I was wondering, would it could possibly be. my car's been down for three months, so any help would be appreciated.

Are you talking about the rumbling sound? If it looked like I was having a hard time it was because I had my iphone in the same hand I was using to shift. aside from that not really it shifted fine, except for 5th like I mentioned earlier. That one is odd to come out of.

When you push the clutch in the noise goes away. When you have it in neutral and release the clutch it comes back. When the car is at a standstill and you throw it into gear that noise does not occur but when your driving and throw it into gear that noise occurs even before releasing the clutch. During that video when I put the car in neutral and release the clutch no noise occured which is completely different then the car at a stand still so I'm not sure why that happens backwards while the car is rolling. Very odd.
I would inmediately check for fluid. That clearly sounds to me like a dry trasnmission. Only a small percentage on this forum experienced that. Please check the fluid and last but not least your still have one more $15 solution. Put some red line MTL and recheck for noises.
There are some syntethic fluids that works wonders.

Yeah I think it's too late for that. The transmission was installed and filled with amsoil all around 600 miles before it went out. I got under it this past weekend and I did see a little fluid from where the tranny meets the tc, but not alot and it was clear still. It wasn't leaking enough to even drip onto the ground.
I finally have extra cash to rent a tranny jack so I'm pulling it out this weekend.

Im no expert but sounds like a throw out bearing. My Subaru did that back in the day changed out the clutch and it was perfect. I think your trannys fine if it doesnt grind going in and out of gear and doesnt clunk and it still works fluck it.
if not the TOB maybe a loose pressure plate or flywheel??? did the noise start right after the install?? How long ago did you install it?? It sounds like a bearing noise but it could be that fact that something is loose and vibrating
