I had it installed about a month or so ago. The noise wasn't there when It was installed, just some very low clutch clatter. The tranny was grinding into a few gears at first but after a few hundred miles it stopped. So for about 3-400 miles everything was running nice. Right around the 600 mile mark this noise started happening, but no where near as loud as you hear in the video, only after I came out of 5th is when it got super loud which is why I am thinking bearing in tranny. All this happened in one day, I was driving back from FL where my car was getting fixed so it was a 630 mile trip.

So I started with the transmission removal process today via the evomoto how-to. And when I drained the fluid, quite a bit came out. Close to the amount that it takes I would say. So it definitely was not low. It also looked pretty good, like a dark amber or brown color. Not a burnt look. This is what the drain plug had on it. Looks like a normal amount of metal particles, no?

I would guess maybe you didn't let the clutch break in properly because you took it on a long trip after the install??

really? I figured a 600+ mile road trip at 3300rpm all the way was a reasonable enough break in? I didn't gun it at all because of the break in time it required plus the fact that I bought a used tranny. I dunno, when I threw it into reverse right before I started tearing everything apart it sounded and felt funny. Just reverse.

Another update: I drained the TC fluid tonight, quite a bit came out as well and it was way better looking than the tranny's fluid. Nice and clearish with very minimal metal particles on the magnet. Tranny fluid wasn't as clear so maybe it did get a little burnt. Won't know until it comes out which will be tuesday, my next day off.

600 miles is more then plenty to break in. if you didnt do any WOT pulls theres no way the clutch is bad. that drain tube doesnt look that good imo. thats a lot of **** on it.

sh*t really? I always thought large pieces is bad but fine particles are ok and normal? damn the anticipation is going to kill me. I don't want to buy yet another tranny.

get more opinions on it before you start getting upset about it.

Oh I will, but the only true way to know what's going on inside it is to just tear it open when I pull it out.

Random question, but what are the black plates with 4 bolts on the trannys for? has a similar one on the TC. can I look inside the tranny and TC through these? I am still ripping it out but I was just curious.
