GTII 7460 on 100 Octane Fuel
Basically, here is my thing.
The Evo 5 RS is a very light car and it has short gear ratios. It has no sound deadening, no power amenities, etc. It is perfect for road courses, mountain touge, and winding roads. In its stock form, the car is very aggressive, and very fast. Response is excellent. It is such a fun car to drive, no offense to the Evo 8 and 9 owners here but once you get your hands on a CP9A, you would not want to return back to your newer gen Evos.
I basically want to keep my Evo 5's fun factor at the same level, but this time, with more power. I want to make it go in tracks with Porsches, and I want to smoke em exotics during touge Philippine version runs.
In its stock form too, the Evo 5 can only go a maximum of 220kph, the most is 230kph, due to its short gearing, so when I get a new turbokit, I expect top speed to still be the same.
Hence, I really want superb response with added power and torque across the whole band. When I watch Japan touge vids involving Evos, I notice that they only use small turbos, with a max power of just 450.
I was thinking that the HKS GTII would be the right answer to my requirement, complimented with a Jun 2.2 stroker, Tomei cams, and a Motec. I might even get TB porting.
So with all these said, do you think that the HKS GTII is the right turbo? I was thinking the FP Red would be laggy with a loss of torque at low revs.

My evo 4 is under construction. the 2.3 HKS turbo is not in action yet. I havent seen the turbo tested on anything but 2.0 liters. without fail the most responsive turbo currently available. it is the best choice for anyone looking for 500whp or less. it may not reach more than 475 on many cars but the response the turbo has more than makes up for its loss of flow.
you are on the right track to an awesome setup.
My wife of nine years is from mindinao. I have been to philipines many times. Davao twice.
This is a USA board for most part. We didnt get early evos here. Our life started with the evo 8. I have evo 1 and evo 4 here and know how much more responsive they are over the later models. But 99% on here have no clue.

My GTR remains in Manila which sees also its share of track days and 300kph highway runs.
Anyway, back to topic, so far, my fingers are inching on the HKS GTII, as per many of the people here, it fits my requirement. Balance of horsepower and superb response to compliment the lightweightness and the short gearing of the Evo 5. As for the intercooler, I saw some videos as the R-Type being a perfect fit to the GTII. I dont expect going beyond 30PSI of boost, I am just looking at 27PSI the most. I want to keep the quality and the integrity of the car and the parts to be installed.
I'll be spending a lot also on suspension. My car presently is on Tein Super Street coilovers, and Ill be running an EDFC on it. Im also installing a Cusco rollbar that retains the back seat incase I need to carry 2 or more women
. Complete set of power braces from Cusco, sway bars, and other body stiffening stuff. Let me know when your HKS is installed too. And let me know when you are in Manila or Davao. Maybe we can go for a few runs at the highways.
I can relate to the fun factor of the Evo and can only hope to someday share and enjoy the two women in an Evo. WTF!
For the short gears you´ll definitely want the BB 7460. My car has the JDM RS gearbox which is short and close ratioed. I bought an FP Red but regret it now as I think that the faster spooling 7460 would be better suited to my car.

The HKS turbo shifts the entire powerband to the left, you see full power by around 5800rpm then it just holds it steady until redline.. its definitely a nice turbo. Dont assume people dont know nothing just because they own an evo though.. thats rather ignorant.

my 94awdcoupe 4g63 is 2560lbs
my evo 1 is 2800lbs
and the evo 4 is 3000lbs.
all these cars not lightened in any way. all have a/c. true street cars. they are all on a whole different level than evo 8/9s and DSM cars.
power to weight is only part of equation. they have far less rolling resistance. smaller tires (width and diameter) less frontal area, and shorter gear ratios. if you haven't actually driven such a car you are in the 99% bracket. sorry if that is insulting to you. I know your car is fun to you and fast as hell by most peoples standards. but I am 100% certain a well setup light car blows your car away in the fun department. I have experienced both cars. 99% on here have not.
I have always driven light cars. evo 8s and DSM feel like absolute pigs to me. even when lightened to 3000lbs and 600whp. 500whp in a light car is ten times the fun. there is a whole host of reasons. less power means more power sooner. more power sooner means no need to rev super high. results in better shifting and easier to launch and front end lifting acceleration.
your insistence that the HKS turbo is too small to be fun is quite annoying. you dont see people with HKS turbos trolling in FP black threads trying to convince people they need a more fun turbo and should switch to the HKS. i dont understand your excessive need to push the black like its the ultimate turbo. give it a rest already. share your opinions after you try the HKS in your setup. then your opinion will mean something.

ask youself what you want from your build...if its the strip go red/black...if street/roadcourse then hks...both turbos are great...each are just alittle better suited for certain applications...be honest with yourself on its intended use and enjoy...as for shorter gearing i would vote hks...those short gears would hinder 1/4 mile times...

Its more of a street and roadcourse car with so much excitement when driven. The short gears work great for courses. 1/4 times and Vmax runs are the last things I would do with the car.
Basically, I want the car as a very exciting car driven on our streets including traffic, mountain touges, and road courses. That is why suspensions will not be spared. I even ordered a Cusco cage and other body stiffening stuff.
Tried it from my Evo 5 into my GTR. The GTR is boring as everything are controlled by computers. The Evo 5 is raw muscle, pure excitement.
My 89 mirage 4g63 was 2450lbs

my evo gets full boost by 3800rpm, so i know what response feels like also, and yes with a 68lb/min turbo, and im 99% sure my evo will take out every car you own. an hks turbo on my car would be a joke, id be spinning tires from stop and go without even trying, since the black somewhat does that now if i accidently ride the clutch alittle and build 15psi.
comparing old ****boxes to new technology in newer evo's and etc is pretty funny also. the 8/9 awd system is superior to anything a 4g63 was ever put into.
i tuned a few hks turbos already, i didnt talk crap on them, i was just surprised it didnt make more then it did.. then again its supposed to be comparable to a stock 9 turbo with better response and 40-50whp+ extra.
not "trolling" anything btw.

im not trying to push anything. my 2g fwd was 2650lbs with driver & full tank of gas and full boost by 3k, so ya i know what a light car feels like. my 1g was i believe 2900lbs.

so a high 9 second car? and you dont think mine will do that with 42psi on kill mode? ive already had it at 655whp on the old motor. will it hookup on the street with street legal tires?
awd 1g has gone 7.7
fastest evo 8 is 8.6
