bad crankshaft position sensor?

I went throught this nightmare a few weeks ago and for about 4 days changed everything i could think of and in the end was just a stupid short in the signal wire to the crank sensor.. i was told by everyone with evo experience that crank sensors dont go bad often, I finally believe it. what does go bad often are the cam angle sensors which is the one on the front of the head.

i had a crank angle sensor die and it only fired on 1 and 2. it's because the waveform goes to ****, and it doesn't know where to fire correctly. Try swapping over the intake and exhaust cam angle sensors and see if it will start.
(will evo9's start with no mivec cam angle sensor plugged in?)

the fact that 1 cyl is working means the signal is properly getting to the ecu, so you might have a bad cam sensor.. if not that then go after than crank sensor.

no spark or fuel. the intake and exhaust cam sensors are different somehow, i had swapped those over and the motor threw a code and shut off after running a few seconds, swapped them back and ran smooth as butter.. they look identical dunno why that happened.

ok got the car together enough to start it and run it off of my parents mini vans alternator 
.... it cranked like it did before (only firing on cyl 1) then when i stopped cranking it putted a bit and started to run... only on 1 cyl still only know this bc that was the only piped that was hot on the header... i tried unplugging the crank senor and it just cranks and doesnt fire at all. any other ideas?
