big turbos tapper also. example: fp black 31psi tapper to 27 on my setup.

I usually see a evo 9 turbo hold atleast 20psi by redline from a 26-28psi spike with a mbc.

it would probably be safer to get a 3 port if you want to run lots of boost but not get any of the torque which happens with a mbc. there are other means to lower torque also, but a 3 port seems like a good investment for a stock 8/9 turbo.

what's probably happening is you are operating the turbo well out of the efficiency range and causing a ton of back pressure - forcing the wastegate open. or you are just out of compressor wheel
with the proper spring rate, would i be able to hold 100% boost pressure till redline with one of your external gates without overworking the turbo? example i run 40psi on a mbc it tappers to 32-33psi, would the external tial wastegate relieve all tapper and allow the turbo to maintain around a 36-37psi level?

So, you recomended to me a MBC? It´s better than EBC?? if is like that, I change again and return to my MBC

I dont know what 3 port or EBC you have, but depending on what you have a hallman could be better at holding boost.. but what i basically said was a good 3 port will be better then a manual boost controller on the stock turbo for someone that wants to keep torque low but wants alot more boost at higher rpm. you can force the wastegate to stay shut longer with a 3 port with wastegate duty cycle percentages.

personally i use a hallman pro and like it, but id like to hold more boost uptop then i currently am also.

Hi guys,
im using a TurboSmart 38mm w/g and just wonder what is the max boost pressure it can takes?
Can it takes 22psi without tapper?
And any other usual factor causing tapper?

Thanks

Ok more info is needed as it took several post for the OP to tell us that he has a External WGA with a 9psi spring and thats why he tappered to 17-18psi. If your spring is a 11psi spring it will generaly hold roughly upto 22psi so set at 22psi and see if it tappers.

I personaly like my EBC the AEM is a unit like Greddy Profect B Spec II that you set a target boost and it hits it and on its own will taper down. I have the HKS EVC VI and its differant and allot more $$$$ and has to be tuned on a Dyno for proper setup. I say this because it does this.

I set it to target X amount of Boost and it will hit that level and then Hold it unless I map it out and yes it allows you to map a perfect RPM drop if you want it or you can tune for a Flatline boost curve. I wont ever ever go back to a MBC their a waste of money and are garbage imo since they cant hold what you set it to when weather changes. That to me is unsafe and I took mine off and sold it.

similiar problem.. E8 engine with evo9turbo gm 3port hks 264 cams, 27psi holding 5000rpm than tappering to 18psi @7000rpm.. but the tapper is so hard 6000rpm only 21psi boost.
the wgdc setting is so high too @4500rpm 94% and from 5000rpm 100% :O

other Evo8 with E9 turbo and 3port and with stock cams 26psi until 6000rpm than tappering to 24psi redline with much lower wgdc numbers.

The WGA coud be the problem ? semms like no boost leak.. or maybe the HKS cams ?

I changed the spring pressure of the external wastegate (14 psi) and the same problem. 24 psi to 18 psi...

most likely out of compressor wheel

depends on the compressor wheel, and what you are trying to run, back pressure and the size of the engine.

chances are the boost falloff is from the compressor giving everything it has and you are way off the map - and when you are off the efficiency map backpressure will go through the roof

Mauri: Can you describe your exact turbo/WG setup to us? Normally with a IX turbo an external WG is overkill. You don't really need it. The stock integral WG will work fine.

Does your IX turbo have a stock 10.5 Mitsubishi turbine housing with a Tial gate sourced off the turbine housing's wastegate bypass port, or what exactly? Or. do you have a one-off exhaust manifold flanged for the external gate? I am just trying to visualize your setup.

Do you have any pics?

The way that I see it although I am not familiar with your particular setup since you haven't posted a specific modlist, you probably don't need the external gate. It alone will not add any horsepower and only makes initial setup and boost control more complicated.

Do you have a stock Mitsu turbine housing for your turbo with the factory integral WG and a suitable downpipe on hand? The external gate is just a needless pain in the a** that doesn't add anything positive to driveability, or power output picture in most cases, IMO.

What blow off valve/ diverter valve are you running?

fp black. id like to try and hold around 37 uptop is this possible. Its on a fully built motor, 2.3L stroker with a race head. when i ran it at wastegate pressure (25psi) i would get a creep to 29psi uptop, id like to run it at 35psi and have it actually hold 35psi until redline, or is this to much to ask out of a stock frame turbo? When I run it to 40psi it will hold the 34-35psi im asking for.
