6 bolt and 7 bolt reference the number of bolts that hold the flywheel on in old DSM's

IIRC
6 bolt 1990-1992.5 (Generally regarded as stronger, do not crankwalk)

7 bolt 1992.5+ (Generally regarded as weaker, prone to crankwalk on turbo models)

There are quite a few differences internally. I suggest just going over to a DSM site and researching.


I think I have only seen one clear case on here ever of a VII-IX EVO crankwalking

Six or seven bolt is the number of bolts securing the flywheel to the crankshaft but is used to designate when Mitsubishi changed engine styles. The older engines had six bolts. This occurred in 1992. So, for USDM Evos, it means nothing.

So is Evo 5 (CP9A) is a 7 bolts crank model?

The Evo V was first built in 1998, long after the engine switch.
