IM & TB removal

Can someone give me a rough estimate of how many hours would be involved in removing the IM and TB on an Evo. Caveat: this would be a first time attempt by an average person who is actually only semi-handy with tools.

I wanna send my IM and TB out to be ported.

I probably took a total of 4hrs or so for the Intake mani. I took my time and did a little each day for the past few days. Just finished today actually. Half the problem is physically locating all the bolts with your hand and getting a socket on them.

A quality ratchet, 10,12,14mm sockets, several extensions and some elbow grease and you'll be good. Of course the strut bar, UICP, and Battery should be removed but i'm sure you already knew that.

its super easy to do without the support bracket on there, do yourself a favor once you get it off, leave it off.

4 or 5 hours? I think I can get it off in 15 mins. Its easy just disconnect everything from it and fuel rail and TB maybe hour tops for you If you have a decent tool set

Hell, that's damn good. It takes me 15 minutes just to start to get a good grip on a bottle of beer. LOL. I think that I'll fly you down here just to watch you work.

Depends on tools I upgraded them and it cut down so much wrench time. If you are going to work on your car I strongly suggest it. I broke so many cheap tools on this car it was a hassel and a waste of time. Sorry for the novel but that's how I am able to get things done quicker and of course after doing it enough times it makes it a lot easier.

is the bracket still on the back of the intake manifold? i take it that it is? if so......pulling both units together you're looking at about 3hrs first timer

the bolts are a pain in the *** to get to on the intake manifold for me, and i even am skinny and flexible.

when you put back the intake manifold, do yourself a favor and trash the stupid black bracket.

The TB I'll have done by Aby @ Milspec(because Eric owes me a lunch!). The IM I'll either have done by PPI or that guy out in Santa Rosa, CA, whose work I admire.

Specifically which exact tools would you advise for this particular job? Any help would be appreciated.

Never? Maybe it seems faster then it really is 30 mins top. With the right attatchments it really isn't that hard. Don't let people discourage you from doing it yourself. The toughest part is getting to the bolts but once u have done it, you will know how to get to them there is 10 bolts holding it to the head I am assuming everything else is disconnected. Good luck just trying to make u feel positive about doing it =)
