I just had the tranny replaced on my MR. I replaced it with a used, low mileage transmission and everything is nice and smooth and quiet but reverse gear gets locked out after shifting to any other gears. Restarting the car in neutral allows me to shift into reverse just fine. Also if i restart the car and shift into reverse first if I then try to shift into 1st gear the car dies. The mechanic says he thinks that it is in two gears at once and that's why it's dying. We cannot figure it out. The cables seem fine and when the car is in gear everything is fine. Any ideas on what could be causing this problem?
We just don't want to assume it's the new transmission before we try everything else.
