Has anyone installed the FP 84mm compressor cover on a BBK?

I just saw that FP is selling their 84mm flow advancement compressor cover used in the Red and Black turbos, but machined to fit the BBK. $75.00 shipped!

Has anyone installed this cover yet? Power increases?

AFAIK, it will void your BBK warranty.

I saw this a few weeks ago and thought it was a good deal. CBRD did say that it would void the warranty….

After chatting with Chad, it sounds like there's no need for it on a BBK turbo.

If you want to eliminate the MAF sensor reduction in I.D. and run S.D. with a constant 4" I.D. from air filter outlet right on up to the compressor inlet this would seem like a good low cost option.

If you run 28-29psi or less then I would say everyone above is correct and you don't need a compressor cover with surge ports on it. Like Chad has said the BBK turbos were made to work on pump gas at 28-29psi or less...Talk to Mike @ AWD about it when they ran mid 30psi and ran mid to low 10s and he said it surged like a ****...so over 30psi you will need one but most people that run them don't turn up the boost that high...Like other people posted it will void your warranty...I think its a good idea...there are a hand full or less of people running those covers on their BBKs...one of those on the new BBK-B would be pretty sweet....

Hey sparky you do realize that 84mm is 3.25 inches right not 4"? I have the 84mm Red and its a nice sounding turbo also it helps allow more flow and I think the purple wheel is gay anyway lol.

Beissen, you obviously uncovered my weakness at figuring metric to SAE conversions. I thought that the 84mm inlet equalled 3.5", duh, dumb me.

I bought a small compressor Red(used) and installed it on my Evo VIII. If, at the time of purchase, I had had the money to purchase new I would really have preferred the 84mm anti-surge cover. But, that's just the breaks.

Now that I have already gone and installed the 64mm Red onto my Evo, in my particular case I wouldn't bother to go to the additional trouble of installing the larger 84mm surge ported compressor cover onto my turbo unless I could simultaneously eliminate the chokedown of the MAF sensor by switching over to a speed density setup so that I would have a straight 4" I.D. inlet system from the air filter's outlet up until the 3.25" diameter compressor housing inlet.

I just personally wouldn't bother to run the 84mm cover unless I could go SD and eliminate the restrictive factory MAF sensor with its dinky ID.
