FP Red turbo spool up sound or boot leak?

Hello,

I recently installed a FP Red turbo and was wondering if the sound I'm hearing when it spools is the turbo's actual sound or if it's a boost leak ??? Should there be any difference in sound when the Red spools compared with the stock turbo?

Why not just run a boost leak test and be sure?

i agree you need to boost leak test, when i upgraded the turbo on my STI to the APS sr56 yes spool up and boost got much much louder but you can never be too sure always boost leak test when in doubt.

does your Red have the 84mm cover? If so it is the turbo. My black has the same cover and sounds like a tractor trailer turbo. it is never a bad idea to do a book leak test anyway.

Yeah I have an unported 64mm hsg on my Red and I noticed a slight increase in mournful compressor sound on spoolup and deceleration as compared to my stock turbo.

To answer the op original question, if it sounds like a mack truck on partial throtle then yes thats normal for the 80mm red

My 64mm red is VERY loud. It might have something to do with what intake you are running as well.

Yeah, I agree. I have an open ended cone type filter on mine. But, I had the same filter(Speed Element) on my Old School Green as well and the compressor was definitely quieter on that Green than on this 64mm Red. There is more hiss now with the Red.
