GSC S1 cams reving to 7,800.

I did do a search and found vague answers about this. I know that it's ok to run the stock springs with the GSC S1 cams but how safe and beneficial is it to rev to 7,500-7800? Does anyone have experience with the power distribution reving to 7,800? Or would it be better to shift at the stock 7k mark when taking it down the 1/4. I have a traxtix cable and I will be changing my rev limiter to 7,800.

Relative to turbo size. There is not a "benefit" to revving to 7800 unless you are drag racing and need to run 4th gear out. It will be faster since its making more power at 7800 than stock cams, but the power peak is still down near 6400 or so.

Stock 9 turbo. So pretty much shifting at 7k with the s1 cams is where its at? Unless you're doing the 1/4 in 4th gear.

Aaron (JohnBradley ) - You are awesome! You are always helping folks, providing knowledge, lessons learned, etc. I am very impressed....I hope you continue to be such a great asset to this community.

I've always wondered why folks set their rev limits way beyond their power curve (for a street car). I generally find myself shifting around 7K when on fun runs. Hopefully when I get cams, I'll have a bit more power and will be able to take it to 7500 or so....

My buddy has GSC S1 cams in an evo 9 with an AMS 50 trim kit and the power is still climbing at 8000rpm. The car made 391 on pump and 438 on E85 (conservitve tune stock long block) on a dynojet. Not sure if this is normal but just info from my personal obsevation.

I rev mine out to 8000 on stock springs. I do it only to pass the traps though. I find that by my dyno graph I make power out to about 7000 then its slowly falls off. Your power curve should let you know when your shift point is. Remember that it is worth holding the gear to pass through the traps when close even when power is falling (unless its like falling off a mountain).

I have ran them out to 8300 on stockers so its possible for sure. The question was if it was needed on his setup and the overrev past peak power, it wasnt needed really.

On big turbo cars the power shifts to the right pretty easy. We did a STOCK cam VIII with a 57 trim that made peak power at 7500 with 29psi of boost. This is versus a stock turbo stock cam VIII that would be somewhere around 6400-6500 at stock boost levels.

pardon the resurrection, but is the s1 good enough for street use with an fp black or 6262? What if i dont want to do an s2 upgrade but just wanted to keep the stock spring reving only to 6500 for street use?

i guess i should say "who should not run an s1 on their evo9?" owners of big turbos like 6262 etc
