Engine Died, not good, heard metal sound !!!
Today when I was driving home from the mall I came to a red light, stopped and the engine stalled. When I attempted to restart it did not want to cooperate. After about 30 seconds I got it started and it sounded like a cylinder was not firing at all, then I heard what sounded like metal rattling in the engine. AHHHHH!!!!!. Being the super intelligent person that I am I drove the car home about 2 miles. I had to get home to get my RSX to pick up my kids from school. During the drive I had to keep the RPM's at 2000 or the engine would die out. I noticed the turbo would spool up a little and it sounded normal. I am thinking that the timing belt jumped a tooth. I also think the metal sound I heard may have been the timing belt tensioner breaking (hoping anyway) I only have 2600 miles on the car and do not abuse it at all. The only mod I have on it is the RMR intake and a turbo timer. I know the dealer is going to say something about the intake or the timer and try to blame me. If it is the timing belt then they are going to have a hell of a time trying to blame my intake or timer for the problem. NOTE: If you ever have to get your car put on a flat bed make sure the company has the articulating type of flat bed. If they do not then they need to put some 4x4's under the tires or the front air dam will hit the bed as they pull it up. I was lucky to have a competent driver who knew what he was doing. I guess I will find out tomorrow what is broke. I am not to pleased by this but maybe I can get a new engine out of the deal. Glad I did not sell my RSX yet. Anyone wants to buy a 2002 RSX with 33K miles let me know :-). If anyone else has experienced this please post it here.

OH god they are like Agent Smith they are always watching lol my last name is Anderson so when ppl say Hello MR Anderson it scary!
Check your bov, it probably popped loose. I really don't think you broke anything. That happened to me, I shifted and heard a loud pop and when I came to a stop at the light my engine died. I had all the same symptoms that you had described, minus the metal rattling sound. Checked under the hood and sure enough the bov had popped out of the hose. Hope this helps.

I say timing belt problems. Check the oil level to be sure mitsu can't say you ran the car without oil. Not all dealers care about the mods. A budy of mine is haveing another clutch replaced under warranty. This is the second time-for a clutch.
Same sorta thing happened to me.. probably the BOV. the engine light popped up and i kept it in the garage the whole day and later that night the light was gone. My BOV hose came out and everything was all good again. i even took it to the dealer and they sed nothing was wrong with it.. except that i voided my warranty cuz of the BOV
Well I just talked to the dealer and they said something let go inside the engine. The number 2 and 4 spark plugs were crushed and there is no compression in either of those cylinders. I am not worried about Mitsubishi watching. I did nothing wrong. I do not abuse my car or push it extremley hard. I like to drive fast but I do not drag race. I like the corners. I am 33 years old and use the car to drive to work everyday. Whatever damage they found inside the engine occured intially. It takes about 2 seconds to wreck the inside of an engine once something breaks. When I got home with the card I did check the oil level and it was fine. That was actually a concern of mine since I had just changed the oil. Yes I used Mobil 1 10W30 and the factory filter. I am an aircraft mechanic and always double and triple check any maintenance I do. I also have the factory service manual so I also use all the correct torques. This has to have been a manufacturing defect of some sort. The dealer said they have to inspect everything and talk to Mitsubishi since it is, as he called it a "hot rod". Again, if Mitsubishi reps are reading this, I do not abuse my car or drag race it. I will admit to driving fast (85) but that should have never destroyed the engine.
Damn that sucks, hopefully they will fix it fast. And a turbo timer is actually a good mod to have, an air filter/intake is not really a major change at all. Let us know how it turns out.

they aren't going to deny it, people worry to much... Just becasue they say No doesn't mean thats it... The law protects us buyers from such cases. My friend Almost took nissan to court, but they gave in when receiving his letter with a lawyer's name attached who would handle his case. His flywheels was blue and the car was lowered. They told him he abused his car (which he really did steet racing every weekend, but the problem was not from racing his reverse went out then the tranny blew driving down the road) and he told him you are in no possition to tell me weither or not my driving is abusive or not. Your definition and my definition are two different things.....
Relax people with the warranties, and i'm sure you will be getting a new motor with no hassels

Thanks for the support
I would like to thank the people who have been positive about this whole thing. Maybe all of us will get new engines (yah, right) when they find a major manufacturing defect. I am viewing this as a good thing for the masses. Hopefully they will find and fix a potential problem that could cause others disaster. Yes, it sucks for me but luckily I have another car to drive for the moment (Acura RSX-S for sale if anyone interested). Keep the information flowing your wheels stuck to the pavement.
