Question LR2.4L engine break-in oil recommendations

Hello all! I KNOW that this topic, and others similar to it, but I want a list of the TOP 3 motor oils to use for the break-in period for this new engine. It's a long rod 2.4L. So far, I've heard that it must be a non-syntheic, but I have also heard that a synthetic or semi-synthetic is ok too. Rotella T, Brad Penn, and Amsoil are what I have so far, but what weight, and synthetic or no?

I don't know if theres really a difference between the long rod and a standard rod (giddity) build, but I know most ppl run a regular cheap oil, but just change it frequently. My buddy probably changed his oil every 250 miles on his STi when he was breaking in his motor. Using a synthetic wont hurt and may be better to use, but its just going to get expensive.

Use Straight 30weight NON-Detergent oil..switch it out about 3 times within 500miles and your fine..also do alot of engine breaking..

Yeah, the cost is a NON issue. Was gonna drain at 20, 500, and 1500 miles for break-in, then switch over to Amsoil Racing Dominator 15W-50 since the car will be run strictly on E98 after the break-in on 93 pump

So, ur saying a non-detergent, non-synth 30 weight? Alright. Can you please elaborate on why.

Yes, I saw that too, but I was unsure whether or not a 30 weight would be best

The dominator oil isn't really meant for cars that are DD, thus why its called a racing oil.

I'd run any quality non-synthetic or synthetic (i don't think it matters as long as you get a thick weight) 15w-40 or 20w-50.

Go to autozone..and buy the Non-Synthetic, Non-Detergant straight 30weight..reason why is becuase their is more Zinc in the oil which allows your pistons rings to seat better and i guess you could say "bite" into the walls..And dont baby the car boost and engine break..thats what i used...

I used a straight 40w non-detergent for ~50miles (had to get the car home!) changed it, then went ~500 miles on a similar oil. been synthetic ever since, mobil1 15w/50 then amsoil 15w50.

i currently have ~11k on my 2.3L motor. This motor uses next to NO oil. The oil level is always near the top notch of the dip stick every 3k miles!

my stock 2.0L used ~1/2-3/4 qt every oil change (3k miles), bottom notch on the dip stick.

Who said anything about the car being a DD?? It's a show/drag car. Ok, so either Brad Penn break-in oil which is a 30W or some no-name 40W non-detergent

10W40 regular conventional oil, dropped within the first 20 miles & or first drive for 20-30 min at varying speeds. Repeat dropping the oil at 200-500 miles and again at 1000-1500 miles & then switch to full synthetic of your chosing. Dyno pulls are nice bc you can get a decent conservative tune in a controlled enviroment while breaking in your engine. GL...

OK! This is what you ran for your 2.4L break-in? What drain intervals did u follow and are you still running this oil AFTER your break-in? My Evo will be run on E98 ONLY after the initial break-in period, thus the RD 15W-50, which supposedly fights fuel dilution of the oil.

I believe I did 20/500/1000/2000/3000. The RD 15w50 is a good oil but I wanted to run 20w50 since my bearings are clearanced for that weight oil.
