Here is some info that was emailed direct from SPEARCO to me!
-Spearco unit features the WAVE technology
-Check out the EXCEL graph below!
-Bar and plate style unit that is designed specifically for each application.
-Spearco EVO intercooler is only slightly higher in pressure drop compared to the factor unit. Ranges between 0.05 psi to 0.07 psi.
-Efficiency is by far the most robust compared to the standard high production tube and fin unit
-Tube and fin unit was orignally designed for radiators (stock OE)
OE uses tube and fin units because it is cheaper to manufacture. Ability to manufacture at a higher rate compared to bar and plate style unit.

Small endtanks actually will cut down on the lag and less of a pressure drop. If you look and many intercoolers for sale the welds look like they were as we call "backyard welds". I have seen this unit while I am staying in LA and it is done really well and think I am changing to this one.
Spearco is a repected name as far as intercoolers go. I feel they know whats they are doing, and this should be a good product. If I ordered one, can I get it without the emplen on it. I dont like the ricer look you know.

I don't know which units you're talking about with the "backyard" welds, but the aftermarket intercoolers I've see do have welded end tanks with no more than a 15 degree taper. If a weld's enough to scare you away from a good intercooler, I'd have to say I'm not surprised, especially given your choice in intercooler piping.

Well, just looking at those end tanks, there is no way you're using that entire core to cool the charge air, refer to this if you want to learn a little bit about end tank and intercooler design. I'd say it's a safe bet you're only using about 25-35% of it, which ends up being less efficient than the stock intercooler AND with MORE pressure drop. But this is all speculation on my part just from looking at those cute little end tanks and previous experience with IC design, YMMV.

Okay, since you have the experience card here, explain to a dumbass like me how those little endtanks are going to get airflow to the top 35% or even 50% of the core? With the inlet and outlet both at the bottom and a symmetrical endtank, I just don't see it happening.
Drag racing IC design doesn't equal streetability, btdt, had the pressure drop. I will be tapping my intercooler inlets and outlets for charge air temperature and pressure and will document the results, care to do the same with that Spearco unit? Another way would be to get both cars on the dyno and use an IR temp reader on various parts of the core to see where exactly that hot air is or isn't getting under maximum load.

I don't like that design either and it is pretty small. My APS intercooler for my Sti has a core 28 inches wide and 4.5 inches thick. The APS, Hyperflow and Buscher seem to be the best pieces out so far.

Those end tanks i can assure you were designed this way ONLY for fitment purposes. THATS it. NOT because it is more efficient. That core isnt small by any means. Bar and plate from spearco is great . I use their cores ALL the time. Trust me i've gone thru a few cores to make my setup. ANd know what i had to come up with. It is hard to clear that last two inches so the endtanks were cut down. Never mind the fact that your boost pressure thru the core is not evidently efficient the way the inlet and outlet ports are configured.
Now is that price they quoted above just for the IC????
How about piping???
And what is the piping bolt up to the stock turbo or stock piping??
Secondly i saw in an above post about how this core will have slightly HIGHER pressure drop that the stock unit. ANYONE care to comment on this??
How is this unit any better than the stock unit then?? is it me or are we getting a little ignorant with the "name brand" *** kissing here.
Alot of aftermarket coolers i can name just off this board can outflow and out perform this upgrade.
