"Gone V8 hunting...be back in 8 seconds" 2011 picture and new build thread
Well 2011 is here and yet another goal has been laid out. I have set a pretty tough one to accomplish this time around but am determined to get it done. I will go 8's and trap 160+ mph this year.
For those who do not know me I have always set a new goal each year. I have been racing for the last 12 years and have well over a thousand 1/4 mile passes under my belt. I do almost all of my own work in my garage. I love this sport and all that comes with it.
I purchased my EVO IX brand new in December of 2006. She now has 17k miles on her but still remains a full interior and functional street car. I plan to keep it that way the best I can.
Each year I've set forth a new goal and have strived to do the best with what I had. Back in 2007 the car went 11.5 on the IX turbo. In 2008 it went 10.9 @ 129 mph on an old school FP Green. In 2009 ran 10.5 @ 134 mph on a FP Red. And in 2010 on the FP Black went 9.7 @ 145 mph. I always loved the idea of having a stock appearing turbo. It was always fun whooping on the 35r powered cars and opening my hood and they see a stockish looking engine bay. No one would ever believe me when I told them it was a 9 second car.
I ran this motor last season and had great results. On the FP Black the car made 619 whp on Buschur Racings Mustang Dyno. My final 2 runs at the track last year were my two fastest runs ever. 9.79 @ 145.26 mph w/ a 1.42 sixty then a 9.80 @ 143.91 mph w/ a 1.37 sixty. We had a few issues that held the car back quite a bit but winter was right around the corner and I had to put the car away for the season. I have no doubt in my mind the car would have gone 9.5's the way it sat. The suspension was spot on and left the hole hard! And this track is NOT known for having the best starting line haha.

For 2011 I have decided to finally ditch the stock appearing stuff and go with a Buschur Racing forward facing setup paired with a Forced Performance HTA GT 3794R turbo. Here is a brief list of mods on the car this year:
- BR 2.0 aluminum rod 10:1 shortblock
- BR stage 3 head
- Forced Performance FP5R cams
- BR forward facing kit w/ a Forced Performance HTA 3794R turbo
- BR intake manifold
- BR 65mm throttle body
- BR race FMIC and UICP w/ Tial BOV
- BR billet fuel rail
- BR double pumper
- ID 2000 fuel injectors
- BR manual boost controller
- BR half width radiator/fan kit
- BR coil on plug ignition
- BR mini battery
- BR 3" turboback exhaust
- AEM EMS tuned by David Buschur
- AEM digital wideband
- Apexi N1 coilovers
- GIRO lightweight front rotors (OEM calipers)
- Wilwood lightweight rear rotors (OEM calipers)
- Exedy triple clutch
- Bushwacker EVO 8 transmission
- Bushwacker non-acd Quaife LSD transfer case

I wish I could just keep this manifold on display in my house LOL. The build quality of this thing is amazing!! I can't wait to see it mounted to the head.

Here are a few pics of the BR stage 3 head. I pulled the head off this winter and had it checked over to make sure it was 100% for this season.

I still need to have the -10 an fittings welded to the radiator. I will mount the manifold and turbo and then play around with fitting this radiator in there. My exhaust manifold is a little different then the normal BR FF kit and is a little tighter fit with the radiator. It should turn out great in the end though.

The new front GIRO rotors are just sexy. Compaired to my worn out OEM front rotors these weighed in at 18 pounds less.

I have everything all layed out, cleaned, and ready to be re-installed again. Everything looks good and shouldn't be an issue as it all comes together. The bearings, crank, cylinder walls, etc.. all still look like new. A new set of rings are being installed while the pistons/rods are out.

I know with the help and continued support of Buschur Racing, Forced Performance, and Bushwacker Transmissions I will get my goal this year. Thank you again for everything you guys do!!
I will keep the pictures coming as I get new parts in and as the motor goes back together. I am currently waiting on a few more parts to come in. I hope to have everything back together and the car started within the next 30 days.
I plan to also add a AWD Motorsports aluminum driveshaft and a few of the BR lightweight parts to help loose a little more weight.
This should be a fun year!!
