Just turn it up now. It's either bad or not. Better to find out sooner than later.

Finally got to open it up today and the boost just topped at 20psi...due to the rain i really couldnt get under the hood to inspect for this boost leak or give the actuator an adjustment...hopefully i can get under the hood this weekend and give her another check over...only good thing is that there is no smoke blowing out my exhaust when i got out of the boost lol....but more to come

You know when oil pressure is going through the turbo it will reduce some play since its between the bearing and cartridge. People always check for play "up and down" and dont realize to figure shaft play when dry vs when pressure is flowing though.

^ thanks for the info....I decided to adjust the wastegate actuator in the rain just now...I shortened the rod about 1/4 of an inch and she is now hitting 24psi...I was tuned to 24 so i'm happy about that but i still suspect a boost leak somewhere...when I have my car tuned end of this month with my meth kit on i'll be sure a boost leak test is done...thanks everyone for your good info and advice...if anything happens to the turbo trust me i'll let you guys know.

all journal bearing turbos have shaft play up and down.. the question is can you make it touch the housing pushing it up and down? if not its fine.

but if it has any in and out movement at all its bad. there should be zero in and out shaft play.

You are going to love it...it takes a little while to get used to for daily driving because it is not responsive at all like the stock turbo but once you get it spooled up and you are in your powerband it just feels amazing.

That whole 500mi. thing is a myth. Back in the day, we'd install ported Evo 3 big 16Gs and run 25psi from day one. I don't recall ever "blowing one up".

ya i never heard of breaking in a turbo LOL.. a clutch sure..

but turbo.. just disconnect the crank angle sensor and turn the starter over multiple times and done.. turbo primed. no need to break in a turbo.

I have deleted a few posts and will make my comments accordingly...

BOTH Chad (CBRD) and Robert (FP) make great turbos and I know both of them!

CBRD and FP both have failures. Take my turbo for example. I am spinning the Black 30-35k rpms more than the usable shaft speed and my turbo has not blow up! In fact I have not had a single problem with it and zero shaft play so far and its at almost 10k miles. However, there are BBKs and FP Black that fail at 400whp... Sometimes you get Monday turbos! I would be very careful in pointing fingers at one company or another. They both know what they are doing and I will leave it at that.

OP you will have shaft play up and down like Tom stated. You only have to worry if you have shaft play in and out. I would go out and boost it, I'm sure you are fine.

I will not tolerate anymore bashing of FP or CBRD. To each his own...

Mikey

Id like to mention, that I too wasnt bashing FP or CBRD in anyway. They both make great turbos and are both respectable vendors.

I was just trying to say the same thing you said Mikey, that both companies can have turbo failures. Neither one is immune to failure.
