My Fp red I bought from a guy on here. How bad is this shaft play? Attached is a video of the movement.

It would seem to me that is an abnormal amount of shaft play. Mine would move more side to side then in and out. It would move maybe 2mm if that. In and out was virtually nothing. Does it seem like its rubbing when attempting to spin it or while pulling the compressor wheel forward and turning? Don't man handle it to find out though lol.

Pretty bad. I would not even consider putting that on my car in that condition.

Very minimal side to side play is normal, but movement in and out like that is no good.

That's not something I'd run.

Hopefully there isn't any damage to either of the wheels.

Whats an "FP TED" ? jk haha. But yeah, in and out play like that is a big no no. The thrust bearing is shot. It'll need a rebuild for sure

Yeah it has slight shave mark where the compressor wheel has rubbed. Any idea on rebuild price?

I'm not that well versed on shaft play (no pun intended so say nothing) but it would look to me like the shaft is broken. if the shaft isnt broken then why would you not be able to tighten the nut to reduse the movement? Is both sides spinning (blades)?

As long as the turbine and compressor housings are ok probably a ball park would be about $750. Obviously though, FP would have to inspect it and let you know. I was quoted more than I was willing to pay to convert my red to a black so decided to go 3582r instead. My turbo grenaded though so it was worst case possible. Both wheels, turbine housing, and thrust bearing all FUBAR.

Good luck with things... How long ago did you purchase it? Has it been installed yet?

This seems to be the black plague for these turbos. All I've seen lately is how they are failing. I know about the oil line and certain oil that needs to be used with them but come on. These turbos are not cheap and don't seem to stand up as well as cheaper T3's. A rebuild is a lot and that's if you can even get a hold of FP. Awesome turbos for what they are but seem problematic.

Bought 2 weeks ago and no it's sitting in the box. The exhaust side does the same.
