Exedy vs act

So its that time to get a new clutch x my evo, my stage 2 exedy only lasted me about 3 + yrs, I don't drive my car even that hard, ever since I replace the stock one with exedy never took the track once, n only abused the car once in a while on the streets, probably only launched the car 3 times if that in those three yrs. Any sugg out there if should go with exedy again or act, clutchmasters, etc, this time. Mods r pretty mild bolt on one: ams fmic, borla tbe, apexi turbo timer, ams manual boost controller set at 21 psi, turbo xs header, hks rs intake, stock cams, valves, etc. any input is greatly appreciated, tnx a lot.

I would recommend the ACT. We use them as a basic upgrade for most of the cars we build here.

twin plate. Anything else and you risk your thrust bearing going bye bye.

^I call BULL-SHEET on that one How many thrust bearings have you heard of in the evo being taken out by a single plate clutch?

People on this site are "twin happy" for no apparent reason, a car in the low to mid 300's there is absolutely no way a twin is needed.

If you aren't tracking the car I'd do another stocker or an ACT setup.

TRE and sheptrans also don't recommend twin plates. TRE actually voids the warranty on their trans if you use a twin plate.

i have been running my act for around 3 years as well. 2 of those years i was at 380ish hp and this last year i have been at 500ish. it is now finally showing signs of wear. 15-20 launches and semi hard street driving and it has held up.

so if you plan to stay around or below 400 i would highly recommend an ACT.

yeah twin plate sounds a little too much 4 my car, b4 I had the exedy stage 2 for some odd reason I install an f1 racing stage 3 and I had a lot of shattering on first gear n reverse, it was way to agressive 4 my evo, It shatter so bad the whole car would sake n sound so horrible on first n reverse, do u guys think even a stage 1 would b safe these time, the only other mods I plan 4 my evo r: ams ic piping, aem uego gauge, aem oil press gauge, and hks evc or any other kind of decent electronic boost controller... some people on these forums seem to think an act organic clutch would last longer, tnx a lot 4 the input....

I used to run an ACT street disc setup at first my car was making 320 and it shifted fine, after I started making 400's it would lock me out of 2nd 3rd and 4th , I switched over to Exedy twin problem solved, I never got locked out again. never ever will I use a single plate clucth on my evo ever again.

I have both, one of my Evo's has a QM twin, the other an ACT HDSS. For streetability, the ACT all the way. It drives just like stock, but grabs better, and a holds more power.

For high rpm shifting and racing applications, the twins are best IMO, but only there.

I just had the ACT XTSS installed on Tuesday, broke it in over 500 miles and now can't complain. No lockout issues, no slipping, but it does make a bit of noise.

What don't you like about the 6 puck clutch?

I'm just curious to hear your opinion on this.
