Cusco twin disc installed

Just got my car back from Exact Motorsports in Milpitas.

John installed my Cusco twin disc, stainless steel clutch line (from lancershop), and removed the clutch restrictor. Also did an engine oil and tranny fluids change since I was due. No major install issues - as noted elsewhere, the lancershop clutch line does not have a middle fitting like the stock or Alamo pieces.

I'm breaking the clutch in for the first 500 miles but I can already tell the set-up is going to be nice. Here are some of the major differences between the stock set-up (keeping in mind I changed three components at once).

Engagement point is much lower in the pedal travel. This was the biggest surprise.

Engagement is "right now" - no real sense of the clutch playing catch-up when the pedal is released - it grips then and there like a toggle. They say this clutch is very slippable - I can only imagine that's when you're getting underway at high RPM's (which I haven't yet). Getting going smoothly takes a slightly more delicate pedal release at typical RPM's.

Engagement point is much more predictable. I am not the smoothest driver but I have decent timing and am pulling off slicker shifts up and down.

Spinning noise from the clutch when it is disengaged. Definitely noticeable but no big deal since it's only when the pedal is to the floor anyway. Otherwise, no noisier than stock when engaged.

Pedal effort same as stock.

Could be my imagination but the infamous 2500-4000rpm deceleration noise seems more amplified with this set-up, not sure what that could be due to but not sweating it.

Thanks to Adam at Z1 Performance for hooking me up with this clutch and for great service.

Thanks to John @ Exact Motorsports for the knowledgable install (veteran DSM mechanic and good guy!).

More opinions in about 500 miles ...

Very good review, I can't wait to you break it in. How much did this clutch run you and is this one carbon??

Clutch was on special for $1499 plus shipping (including throwout bearing) from z1auto.com; it is the carbon-carbon.

I did indeed. I even biffed and missed the first T.O. bearing shipment - Adam re-sent without a problem. Good guy.

He held the clutch for me with a small down payment for over a month while I came up with the balance of the price....now that is customer service!
