Stock EVO exhaust is not that bad or is it.

Today I took the car on the lift just to see the exhaust and from what I can tell It does not look that restrictive at all. WRX on the other hand was a disaster so I had to upgrade it but Do I need to go turboback on EVO to make ~350HP not wheel horsepower?
I have Blitz Sus intake, AMS mbc, TXs RFL bov, S-AFR.
Will these mods give me about 350HP.
Just yesterday, this riced out Celica GT-S (had one) hung with me pretty good and I was upset because I couldn't humiliate him. I didn't Launch. It was a 40mph rolling start. ok it wasn't a rolling start either he tried to do the fly by and I tried to deny it but I barely denied it. Is something wrong with my car.

Having an aftermarket exhaust does allow the engine to rev more freely in the higher rpm range. I am noticing a large difference with my Forge Motorsports 3inch turbo back exhaust installed vs stock.
No, there is nothing wrong with your car. If he began accelerating before you, he had a chance to get out of his wheezy 1-5k rpm range and into his high rpm sweet spot where his car accelerates best. It can be hard to catch a car that has had a second or two to accelerate at WOT before you begin your chase.

Yeah I know I was surprised almost shocked when he was right next to me when I down shifted to third hitting 20psi at redline.
I was like WTF.
I had one back in 2000 so I know their top end but I think he had to be spraying something.

The EVO exhaust is OK untile the cat back. If you notice on the stock set-up there is a huge bend coming into the muffler from the side. I think this is the weakest link along with the factory cat.
I think if one wanted a descent set up for cheap, you could get a reputable brand cat back and a high flow cat. I think you would notice some good gains up on top.

Don't forget the downpipe - if you've never seen the stock DP, it's very constricted and has bends all over the place. Looks like someone let their little brother hit it with a sledgehammer. A good DP will allow a nice, smooth flow...

Well I would say the stock exhaust isn't too bad... (after the cat and before the rear axle)...
Just like Chris said already, the stock DP has much bends. And there's like a 90 degree turn at the muffler.

Don't be dissapointed, you can chalk that up to momentum and the incredible advantage it provides.
I thought for the longest time that my EVO was making less power than it should b/c i was barely beating cars that i had given head starts to...but then i got it dynoed, and turns out mine was making about 20lb-ft more than all the other evos that Brainstorm had dynoed.
These guys are telling you the right thing.
One of the best upgrades you can make on a turbo car is an exhaust system.
The stock exhaust isn't complete crap. The cat back pipe is actually pretty decent. We have built a budget minded exhaust that will keep the stock midpipe and the stock cat. These two pieces save you quite bit of money and are actually decent.
We have built a 2.5" CNC mandrel bent downpipe that bolts to the stock 02 housing (also a darn good piece) and then to the stock cat. The system then flows through the stock cat and cat back pipe. From there you need to get rid of the stock muffler. We have a super light weight muffler delete pipe or an axle back muffler. With the stock cat and two stock resonators in place the muffler delete pipe is still quiet. Just these two parts really wake the car up and we have quite a few guys running 12's like this.

Cool,
I have the Bushur axle back and really like it. Believe it or not, I got a speeding ticket in Attlboro, MA, and the officer tacked on $50 for "altered exhaust." Cripes, I bought an axle-back so I woudn't get hassled, lol. I'm contesting the ticket of course.
Anyway, this kind of put a damper on any plans for a full-blown 3 inch exhaust. I'm happy with my current setup (K&N panel, MBC, SAFCII in need of a tune, and Bushur axle-back), but I would like to add a little extra oomph. A new downpipe bolting up to the stock system sounds good, but would it make a noticeable diff? I would think it would help with spooling and whatnot. Could I get another 5-10 HP this way? I think a tiny bit more noise would be cool, but obviously I don't want to go much louder. Would this dp affect noise tremendously?
<edit>
As for the original question, adding the axle-back made my car noticeably quicker. This was even before the SAFCII. So, get an exhaust.

Thanks,

No person shall operate a motor vehicle on any way which motor vehicle is equipped (1) with a muffler from which the baffle plates, screens or other original internal parts have been removed and not replaced; or (2) with an exhaust system which has been modified in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the exhaust.
unless such motor vehicle is equipped with a muffler to prevent excessive or unnecessary noise, which muffler is in good working order and in constant operation, and complies with such minimum standards for construction and performance as the registrar may prescribe. No person shall use a muffler cut-out or by-pass."
Sorry to digress...
