So after recording mine and listening to them both again they both sound really similar. If you find any good info please post back as I would be very interested to hear any and all info about this issue. I want to fix mine without spending an arm and leg thanks in advance

I'm kinda hazy on this (I have an 8), but from what I remember of an old thread, this turned out to be the timing belt rubbing on the crank angle sensor. Anyway, people who took this to the dealer under warranty got it fixed and it had to do with the timing belt. So, you could talk to the Mitsu shop and maybe find out what their repair is.

So I think I found the real problem its the large bracket itself that holds the idler pulley and other pulleys the bracket bolts to the engine mount I think. I guess it has been slightly changed to give a different angle or spacing or something. I'm still doing research on this but that would make sense. People in the past that have had this issue when the cars were brand got theirs fixed under warranty and the sound comes back. In more up to date posts the bracket is the culprit and has been changed to fix this issue. Most people change the bracket, pulleys, tensioner, timing belt and crank angle sensor blade. No mention about the balancer belt or water pump but while in there it would be a good idea to change those as well. I want to do more research about the bracket itself actually being different, I'll post my findings. I found a sticky on here about it, I'll post that up. Good luck to all 9 owners with this issue.
