Cylinder head **** from HeadGames...

Thought we should start a thread to show some of the cool things that happen at HeadGames. In this thread you won't only find Evo related, because we do so many different kinds of heads and some of the stuff we do is just something you would normally never get to see. How it's done and what is done will be the theme...no pricing!! pm's or email only...

First up..

Just got finished a cylinder head for the infamous Sean Ivey of Ivey Tune. Sean and crew has been so instrumental in alot of changes made to the evo heads we provide the community with tons of feedback as Sean's magic hands wisp away at the keyboard while he is tuning. So..it's only fitting the master gets his personal ride equipped with some HeadGames Motorworks goodness...

the combination is a easy one for us. With around 1000whp we take no chances, and run a Ferrea valve. The intake valves are Ferrea's standard size Comp Plus variety, while the exhausts are also stock size but are made of a higher grade of inconel called Pyromet, the same material used in Ferrea's top fuel and funny car valves! So, we know they can handle the heat! These are not off the shelf pieces.

Up top you have Sean's favorite flavor of Supertech spring kit. We have had so much luck with the Supertech springs in almost every application, we agree it is a excellent combination.

As with all of our ported heads, it was also outfitted with bronze guides, Supertech valve seals and milled on our super smooth Sunnen/DCM 3810 milling machine. The port was also not some crazy off the wall drag port. This head will see some street/drag and road race. So, we decided the best avaunue was to test out the same port we use for most street/race set ups with the exception of valve material. So, this is the same head you get when your ordering from us when ever you get our ported head. It will not only make the power, but have a super fat power under the curve with the port and valve staying small, but making the areas that count in the port and valve job take over the job of getting this beast down the road!

I'm so happy I decided to go all the way with my head. I'm also glad you didn't tell me about the "better valve" as I would have changed my mind AGAIN.

in a short answer..they are almost completely different. All of AMS/HeadGames heads came with oversize valves per customer(AMS) request. And all came with Supertech valves and springs.

We went back to the drawing board when we parted ways. The valve job was the first thing to be attacked and we have came up with a combination that flows more through the mid range and flows equal on the top end utilizing a stock size valve. Most of the heads come with Ferrea components now, almost all have stock size valve unless over 1000whp and there is way more options for your valvetrain of choice. The intake port was completely gone over as well. The only thing that survived was the chamber and some of the exhaust port.

we have tons of data...unfortunately flow numbers from what we have noticed is something not many know how to decipher. They turn into just a bunch of numbers to most, and they just look at the .500 number to see if a head is good or not.

I'll try to put some graphs up, I think that's easier to understand.

that's awesome! They will all make great power, it's just how it makes the power that changes. We don't have any back to back tests but, from what we have seen the latest heads have a ton of torque and mid range and pulls like a freight train up to redline.

Just curious as to what is the benefit of using stock size valves for less 1000whp?

No loss in spool. As Dave explained to me, stock size valves don't become a restriction until the 1000whp mark. As long as the proper port designed is used.

The stock size valve, and a killer valve job on the flow bench will flow more in the mid range then the oversize valve. It might not show a peak CFM like the oversize valve but we do not concern ourselves with the .500 number as the end all, tell all. And we are talking 5-10 cfm on the top. So, not much loss for alot of gain. The valve is also less shrouded.
like Mr.Mayberry says. No loss in spool. Actually, we pick spool up at a faster rate.
and it will make more torque. Both of which will make your butt dyno happy when you press the loud peddle.

And it was honestly a logical step on our part, when we are making 1400whp on cars like Shep's Talon with a 1mm over valve, why would we need the same for half of that? Or within 4-500whp of it. This has been shown on every platform we do heads for. 1000whp Honda's can use more cam, and go 7's with stock size valve. 1100whp supra's spool those monster turbo's much faster. Seeing full boost with a GT47 by 4500rpm. We are even trying a 1800hp VQ with stock size valves sometime in the near future. Georgie Performance has a 1000awhp Subi with stock size valves..our list goes on and on.
But, I digress..it's all in the valve job honestly. Which means, it might not be something everyone could do.
