thanks for the input
i'm not the kind of guy that will go out and buy a $400usd sump.
I would rather learn about how it all works, and try a simple solution to fix what must be a common problem. This is one of the main reasons why i modify cars... to Learn

Can anyone post some detailed pictures of an evo 8/9 sump? i want to see if it's the same as my evo6 sump. I'll put some pics up later.

Cheers, Mike

at the end of the day, it doesn't stop the oil sloshing out of the oil pan in high G acceleration and/or cornering.
I might look at doing some baffling like the AMS sump.
Having a plate that sticks out from the "shallow" section and partially covers the "deep" section to stop it coming out under high G right hand turns.
Then trap door the rear section

We tried the AMS sump, built by moroso.... and it did not work that well.
still hade oil pressure drop on the circuit and struggled with oil leaks

do you think it's possible to do a better job with a modified stock sump with the correct baffling?
Or is it just too small?
I'm assuming you ran into problems under breaks and on high G right hand turns...

Here are some ideas for baffling...

Looks like prove - test - prove will be a good way to do things...
If only i made an oval exhaust to get rid of that hump in the sump!

looks like buschur copied the jun modified pan, I would think an acusump will do far more than adding baffle to pan.

the cardboard would hit the crank in your picture. 9 pans are slightly better than earlier pans. better crank scraper

Braking is not the big issue... right handers is... only to try a more basic sump out is to build it with trap doors... I think

true true.

The only other way i've thought of solving that (apart from going dry sump of course) is to enlarge the "shallow" side of the pan. Then put an electric pump on that new volume of oil and pump it directly next to the pickup.
So you would have a constant flow of oil to the pickup (even in RH corners).
The problem is finding a pump thats happy to do that, and with a flow rate thats high enough.
A 3GPM pump ($$$) is only 200ml per second... and we still dont know how much oil the stock Oil Pump flows...
Still, it would be better than nothing.

edit - http://turbowerx.com/Scavenge_Pumps/.../Exa-Pump.html
see what i mean... $350USD for a pump

I don't think adding baffles that HIGH in the pan will do any good. i think the semi capped cylinder seems like a good idea right around the pickup.

also making the dipstick hole smaller... and probably welding up the holes at the edges to seal them off rather than leaving them spot welded.

best way to do this is to TEST! you've got some great initial data... start modding your oil pan and show the difference

thanks!
i just hate pulling the oil pan off, and it's about $140nzd worth of oil each time i drop the oil
i'd like to do as much as possible if i can.
i'm thinking about moving the pickup too.
i have an old pickup, sump and windage tray on the way from a friend. Then i can chop the bottom off the sump and see how close the pickup entry is to the sump floor. (this alone could reap massive results).

Closing up that dipstick hole is high on the list. I will be doing 3 or 4 trap doors too.
possibly extending the sump in 3 directions.
I might even move the pickup point so it's closer to the shallow side of the sump. This will give me more oil to the right of the pickup for high G right hand turns.

Thanks for your input
