Fp5r cams scratch
Ok I bough this cams used from another evom member for a good deal and wen I got them I notice a few scratches on the exhaust cam. I hit it with a very light sand paper 1500 to be exact but I can still feel it with my finger nail. There is no raise material the scratches are goin in but I dont know if I can still use them or will they cause a problem. Plz let me know what u guys advice me to do. Return them or can I still use them?
Also do I still have to check for valve clearance with this cams on stock pistons?
Thanks.

100% usable. hit the lobes and cam journals with 600 grit wet paper. hold paper curled in hand and rotate cam same direction as in motor. goal is to polish off high spots only. not trying to remove any low spots.
It bothers me to see soo many people say they wouldnt use them. you guys should not be working on your own car. there is no mechanical reason whatsover why these cams wont work exactly like brand new ones. this question is asked a few times every year.

They will not fit stock pistons. They barely fit my weisco HD pistons. They won't fit with stock style valve spring retainer, etc. Make sure a good machine shop sets up the head or it won't be pretty

i would agreee to lightly sand the high spots on the lobes.....BUT 3geclipseturbo is right looks like he dropped it or hit the corner of something, get ur money back and by gsc s2! like meee!
I hope you know that the exhaust cam in that picture isn't a 5r it is an 11r which I would never rec. for a street car unless you are running an extremely radical setup.
I also rec having everything in the head set up by a competent machinist otherwise you will have destruction along the lines of the head those cams came out of already i.e. smashed valves /broken rockers/ broken pistons. Even if you have aftermarket pistons there are very few that will clear that cam.
Good luck.
P.S. - The cam should be fine to run just take down the high spots and any sharp spots on the edges that could cause cracking.
