06 MR grind into Reverse

Im new to evom i bought an 06 mr a few days ago. The first day or two the car took some effort to shift int reverse, and now if I have the clutch all they way in it grinds. Its on and off I have started putting it in 5th then into reverse and it fixes the grinding. Also I noticed the gears are hard to change its like I have to force the shifter. But if Im shifting at a higher rpm its smooth as butter and sometimes i get a notchy feel going into 2nd and 5th. Anyone have any ideas? The car has an exedy stage 2 clutch and light weight flywheel

Those MR trannys just dont seem like they are built to last. I've known quite a few people that have the same issues.

Maybe try a fluid change and see if ur getting any shavings at all???

start with a fluid change. i personally use amsoil MTG. also i would suggest a solid front engine mount like blox. 6-speed tranny lasts long as long as you do your maintenance and the torque is below 400.

You can try our Castrol Syntorq LT. My MR transmission has 134,000 miles on it with no problems.

I just changed the fluid with diaqueen and seems like the gears got easier to shift. Also the oil looked really dark like its never been changed before,no big metal shavings.

I dont really get grinding going through gears 1-6 just have the notchy feeling while shifting at low rpms. Its weird because if i am driving a little more aggressive it shifts really smooth in all gears.

Id run some syncromesh for a few thousand miles, then swap out for something more suitable for performance. Engine mounts or even torque dampers can help with shifting. Bushings as well. Anything u can do to keep linkage tight and inline will help. But usually, trans problems are from abuse. Who owned the car before you?

with the mitsu tranny. if its cold it usually is a bit notchy but once warm it should be smooth as butter. just like what danner said front engine mount should help also you can get the solid underhood shifter bushings from buschur or ams. you can also try a different fluid next time like castrol syntorq or amsoil mtg.

Any chance it's got something to do with the clutch? I'm kinda in the same situation - just got a 9 MR with kinda high miles, around 90k, and for me it's 5th (not 6th) where it's tough to avoid a grind, but what's more annoying is just how notchy / difficult it can be to shift. Once it warms up it's not as bad, but I'm wondering if it has anything to do with my clutch. I think it's a Competition clutch that the previous owner put in only about 10k miles ago, but I'm not a big fan of this clutch... The shop put new gear oil in when they did the clutch, so I don't know if that's worth doing again. Any suggestions..??

I lost my 6sp at 27k.. Was my syncros but from 3rd to 4th.. I have a bit of trouble getting into reverse when the car is cold... I feel more notchy then a grind like others have said. I run Diaqueen in my rebuilt 6sp... I am going to be doing a fluid change as well. Just make sure when you do it that you do check for any big shavings or alot of them. Good luck.

My personal experience with Synchromesh is horrible.

Once I switched from the Super DiaQueen and started running the Castrol Syntorq LT, my 2nd gear notchiness was gone. People are free to try whatever they want...but like I said, with 134,000 miles on my original 6 speed I have no complaints. Been running the Castrol since 12,000 miles. Love the fluid so much I now sell it

The car already has all the mounts changed to stiffer also has the engine damper. I will probably order up some good shifter bushings. Ever since the fluid change it has gotten way better once the car warms up 1-4 shifts are very smooth, I sometimes get a notchy/minor grind feel into 2nd and 5th. Reverse has also gotten better once I warm the car up i still tend to put it in 5th before I put it in reverse. Anyone have an idea what a shep 5 speed conversion will cost me? Im thinking drive it for now and if it gets worse and craps out I will just do the 5speed swap.

For the 5-spd swap you'll need the 5spd linkages and a couple other small items (can't remember off the top of my hear) and obviously the trans....probably could do it for 1600 or less depending on the deals.
