But what type of power gains can you except with the modified turbo though?

Throw a 10.5 exhaust housing on there. It will help things. I plan on getting a TME turbo, once I get an Evo in the next couple of months. It should look stock except for different numbers on the turbo.

That upgraded turbo is rated up to a max of 500HP. Not bad for $825.

Hmm.. I'll have to research this a bit more.. I'm a wholehearted believer in keeping as many of the components as stock as possible. I really like the twin scroll design. I'm more than willing to try out the upgrade as long as their aren't any horror stories about it. FWIW After upgrading the JIC manifold, upgraded Turbo, and O2 housing, Its cost would be approaching the cost of an aftermarket upgrade. So you have to weigh the benefits.. I want to try to avoid the the compromises of going with a larger aftermarket turbo setup. HOWEVER after adding it all up, You might want to make your own decision. The only issue with a completely new turbo setup (Like the HKS) is the additional supporting mods that come with the territory. (which most who would consider this would have already made)

Hope this helps..

Lowering the mass of the turbine and impeller wheels, clearancing the hot side of the housing, porting the wastegate poppet.. anything that will increase the maximum flow of the turbo, along with reducing restrictions and friction in the hot side will improve the stock turbo. Apparently that is what their upgrade does.

For a straight bolt-on, there is always the TME turbo (Evo 6.5) or whichever one has the Titanium components..

Not sure what else to suggest, not all of these mods are considered cost effective for the gains you can make. But if your in a racing class where modifications are strictly regulated, then you need to use a housing that is visually indistinguishable from stock, or the JDM part which is identical externally.

Be warned.. some major events will require an inspection and possible disassembly if you win, or have a significant advantage to otherwise similar (Same) cars..

I really like Turbocharger.com but......

We tried one of the upgrades on our EVO. DOES NOT work. I don't think they have anything new and if this is still the first one they released then it should not be for sale.

If you guys from Turbochargers see this, don't get pissed.

I inquired about the Turbochargers.com upgrade 2 weeks ago. They said that they were still working on it and wasn't available for sale yet.

In my opinion this is the absolute best idea I have seen for anyone wanting to keep the stock (or near stock) turbo setup to get a substantial gain in top end power.

The Turbonetics rebuild is done differently - I believe the details are on their website and also on the SoCalEvo.net boards. I know they install a ball-bearing center section and it costs $500 w/core exchange.
