06 MR 5speed swap?

Im new to the whole evo world i recently bought an 06 MR and im having some trans issues. How much would a 5 speed trans swap run me if anyone knows or has done it? I was thinking about just having the 6 speed rebuilt, but want to start putting down more power and im afraid the 6 wont be able to handle too much power?

You need
5-speed trans - make sure you get the sensors & mounts, and bracket for cables with it $800 - $1000 Evo 8 or 9
5-speed shift linkage - $110
A clutch kit for 5-speed trans- $400- $3500
You will also need a pigtail to wire into your trans harness for the reverse sensor-$10 Dsm one will work
5-speed center counsel with boot - $60 - $100 and I used my MR shift knob.

I think that about covers it.

without a doubt if your 6spd is going out you might as well upgrade to the 5spd. Pay now or pay later but either way your gonna pay.

Once you drive over 80mph your gonna wish you had a built 6 speed.

Nope. I had a 6-spd and did the 5-spd upgrade and I've never looked back. Imo the 5-spd is a significantly better transmission period. Beyond the fact that the built 6-spd is still weaker than an OEM 5-spd, the gearing (if probably built) can be made pretty ideal for whatever you use the car for. Shep put together a nice gearing for road racing for me and its also brilliant on the street.

Thanks for the info and I was wondering could i just send in my 6speed trans and have shep convert it to a 5? Or do I need to start from an actual 5 speed trans and have them build it stronger?

you can send your trans to shep and he might give you a core refund. If you buy the whole set up from shep it will run you around $4100 shipped for a built 5 speed with upgraded final drive. This can handle much more HP than your stock. Some guys are even pushing them to 800HP. Thats what I went with.

How much power can the 6 speed handle? I'm looking to get around 450-500whp.

ive heard they can only handle up to 450 ft/lbs of torque before it goes pop

Im looking to keep my torque well below 400 and aim for ~420 hp, so I may stick with my 6 speed...
