Is it bad to not have the turbo heatshields on?

Yesterday I was doing my timing belt and had to move the bottom heat Sheild on the turbo to get to the balance shaft hole. While doing that I snapped 2 of the bolts off the bottom heat shield. Is it alright to just leave the thing off?

I personally would go on ebay and get a turbo blanket for a t3 turbo. It will hold the heat in your turbo, and out of the engine bay better than a shield can. It will also reduce the likelihood of an engine oil fire in the instance of component failure.

Good luck

Either get your stuff ceramic coated or use the stock heatshields (both if possible).

you dont need it.. infact its the worst design ever and always causes rattling.. and 90% of evo's no longer have it on. (lower heatshield that covers the o2 housing)
