yea that's way to much, if your talking about the entire housing and not opening the Diff housing to do any work

Local shops in Nor-Cal quoted 2 hours labor.

400 to drop the diff and put new one in. Man oh Man. Everybody trying to get rich I guess. That or the shop really doesn't wanna be bothered with it so they highballed him on the job

Either way

Doesn't it sound a little fast? 1hour to take it off and another hour to put it on? My cousins about to pay that but he's a moron. He's to dumb to Take his car elsewhere but I'll tell the guy off if it really is a 2 hour total job and charge my cousin $50 for saving him money lol

^

the good evo shops in my area both quoted 2 hours, a buddy of mine did it for 60 bucks, took about 3 hours from start to finish

I assume the evo shops have done it so much that with experience + a lift it only takes 2 hrs

In ny most shops charge about 300-350 because there is no telling if this job will be 2 hours on the dot everytime you have to be more realistic here....but 4 is a little up there.

Thanks for all the replies. Definitely High in price Is the conclusion lol. I had major headaches with my 3000gt vr4 and don't want my cousin going through the same. Hate it when little shop mechanics try to screw people

personally id say have your cousin or whatever have them show you the labor time to perform the job on either mitchell or alldata, some shops try to overcharge people, labor time guides through mitchell and or all data are pretty much on the dot about how long they should take, but I see if the rear diff is being replaced as in old assy out new one like a TRE being installed without swapping the internals, shouldnt take more then 2-4 hours

actually now that I think about it more I do remember some saying it can take up to 4 hours which would put it in the 350 area

It's a 2 hour job. Hell, I dropped my own diff in 30 min and it was my first time. It was very simple and straight forward. You don't even have to take the axles out of the hub to do it. Sure, putting it back in, you have to make sure everything aligns with the holes but that job shouldn't be hard too.

Idk why he's in love with this mechanic lol. He said he's gonna do it. That he showed him on the computer its a 5hour job and it's gonna cost $400. Cousins a idiot. After he does it I'll call a another mechanic in front of him to show him that it should be less lol

I've had mine out and back in a couple times. I used a lift and it took less than an hour to the whole thing each time. Second time was closer too an hour since I installed the AMS mustache bar eliminator at the same time.

Unless every bolt is rusted and breaks 4-5 hours is insane for a diff swap...
