Looking for a place to tap...

I've done some searching and couldn't find anything def. leads.

I installed a small 12V fan behind the oil cooler. My thoughts are I would like to tap into or route to a thermostat controlled relay (radiator fan?). I know I don't want the oil cooled to the point that it causes more harm than good. More than likely it would just need to be used during track times........

Is there something already in place that i can tap into (feed from)? Or maybe add a code to the ECU and tap into a line from there? I don't really want to add a toggle switch if i can help it.

thanks,

Buddy

Why not add a switch in the cabin that controls the fan?

Why not run it direct from ignition? On all the time. What is the advantage of having it thermostatically controlled, anyway? Just curious.

From my understanding, engine oil (and engine) are happiest at around 180 - 210 deg. F. I've just notice that on autocross track days w/ back to back runs it tends to get hotter. This causes it to thin (oil pressure drop) as well as viscosity break down (over a period of time). We already have an oil cooler, but with the slower speed runs of autocross it doesn't get alot of airflow. Having a small fan behind it helps. If ran all the time I don't think it would cool the oil to the point of harming anything, but it would wear your fan motor out.

I'm all for changing oil at intervals, but if i can extend it some....... This is a basic run down. I'm sure it can get much more detailed.
