Question Plz Help Water leak above water pump?

Iam in the army and stationed in Germany and my evo 8 just started leaking right above the water pump, first thinking it was the water pump i replaced that and it WAS NOT the water pump so i just spent 350 gettin it replaced cause i have no tools and no where to do it. The mechanics are saying that it might be the head gasket but the car runs perfect just pours out water most of the time and i dont know what to do they want 300 more dollars to take the engine apart and see if it is the head gasket....it doesnt smoke abnormally except black smoke when u get on it cause it runs rich...i dont know what to do can some one help me on wat to do next....should i do a compression test or wat?

If the coolant is coming out from between the head and the block it is the head gasket.

The first step in fixing any leak is to find the source. Finding the source tells you what you need to do. Sometimes finding the source can be difficult but if you skip this step you then are throwing parts at it and, as you learned, that doesn't always work.

^^ What he said. Check all elbows, , gaskets etc. Could be a HG but Probally not as it would likely overheat...Also check your oil and see if theres water in it.

prob has pushed all the coolant out. fill it back up and pressure test the system. if nothing else add some coolant dye to the system and see if that helps. all the bolts on waterpump torqued to proper specs?

When it overheats, stop and check if the jug is full to overflowing.

well when it all started that overflow started to fill up and the water looked dirty and nasty in the over flow then after that it started coming out over the waterpump changed the water pump then the mechanics who did it said it wasnt the water pump it was the headgasket and they said i might have head damage i dunno

And if it overheats too long it will warp the head too. Have you driven it while it's overheated before? If so how long before you shut it off?

its not about gettin super hot, but hot enough for the gasket holding the block and head together to climb in temp to loosen up the seal. Simple, it can go 3/4 hot on the temp gauge, one thing about our cars is our temp gauges are accurate to a certain point, on some gauges ive seen 10-15 degree difference in temp gun reading on radiator hose, to what gauge says to what evo scan says temp reading is. best bet is a compression test, followed by a cylinder leakdown test, but before those easiest method to determine blown head gasket, theres this contaminate tester that you take a sample of the coolant in the radiator then put a dye in it if turns a different color you have oil in the coolant....use that first, dont wanna jinx ya but sometimes i get the i told ya so...good luck man
