I think with some porting and a good boost profile, this thing will trap 118+ on pump gas, and be somewhere in the mid 11's.

I trapped 115, full interior on my ported 9 turbo with ****ty 91 Cali octane. Bolt ons, 272 cams, and Hallman boost controller.

I might try out this turbo after following your thread. Thanks for all the great info.

Kinugawa, Tomioka, Kamak turbos..?

So you have the Kinugawa turbo..I've seen on eBay..the Tomioka turbo has a anti surge cover also. Are these Chinese, Korean, or Thai made? I also found a Kamak 20g turbo..so I'm a little confused. The reason I'm asking is I was thinking about getting a 3" anti surge cover for my Tomei. I did not realize there were so many similar turbos, but they look different as far as the covers go.

I have the Kinugawa version. It was shipped to me form Taiwan and has a Made in Japan logo on it. Its probably safe to say its made in Taiwan as well. And I am more than sure that they are all built in the same place. I've called and discussed my Kinugawa with the Kamak office in California. Similar to how Megan's, BC's, and Apex' coilovers all come from the same place.

The Tomie Arms, the old MAP SST, my turbo, and Kamak all have the same turbine and compressor wheels.

I'm sold so far. For the price, its hard to beat. It is a 400whp pumpgas turbo with proper supporting mods. I consider my setup mild and am near that marker. Now, longevity is the key factor. Time will tell.

IIRC, there is no difference between RS, GSR and MR cams as all the motors are the same.

I want to update this thread as I made it to the track yesterday. Best pass was 11.88 @ 116 with a 1.70 60ft. There is a little more to be had with driving, but I think this is it with power in regards to my setup. I never got a chance to change out my 264 cam, but I did get rid of my ebay LICP for a Muse Motorsports unit. I'll post up my latest VD graphs when I get on my other laptop. Boost is set to 26psi tapering to 21 at redline.

EDIT: Just for reference, my car is an SSL. Weight with me in it is around 3465lbs. I wouldn't say its a pig, but if I had an RS, i'm sure the car would have gone faster.

This is awesome! I am curious to see more.

Someone posted a link to a compressor housing and wheel replacement from similar companies on ebay. Do you think the performance would be similar to what you are describing with your setup? Do you think it worth it to go with the whole setup or would the$155 compressor "upgrade" actually work well with the stock tubine and center section?

Im suprised there weren't more "you get what you pay for" or "FP and CRBD are the only way to go" quotes beign thrown around before those numbers went up. Well done so far! Shows that good research can definately help save some good money. I do understand the differences but this shows there are many ways to go about tuning. Thats what this scene was based on from the begining.

Don't get me wrong, turbo's from FP or CBRD are absolutely awesome. My next turbo will more than likely be a BBK variant. But, for the price, I am enjoying my 20g.

-I don't think the compressor wheel upgrade will warrant good results due to the stock size of our turbine wheels. I think DB had a turbo like that out a while ago and it was a surge monster.

Good info thanks. Whenever I get time to save money ill be looking to a green or used red bb (as soon as someone gets rid of one) but I saw that and had to ask about the wheel/housing upgrade due to the age old "you get what you pay for" though the whole turbo setup seems to just be a good deal

I think for the $$ I might have to try one of these out. Should be a huge upgrade over my 8 turbo. Thanks for the review bigt!

What intake fits this anti surge cover?

Yes, full blown evo 9 install kit..... all line, gaskets, copper crush washers, turbo outlet pipe, etc. The only thing I reused was my stock oil drain line. I didn't like the one that came with the it.

How did the Kinugawa 25G goes? 60.2mm/78mm wheel is huge for the IX compressor cover. Almost similar to the GT30.
