Tapping sound from hell ending BAD :(

so after doing a pass at the track i notice a light tapping sound almost like something was hitting my fan.. so i slow down and the tapping slows down as well and when i gave it gas it sped up and got louder...

so i park it and pop the hood and find out its coming from head area almost like if it was a broken lifter or something in that area since it clearly sounded like it was coming from right under the valve cover..

so anyway we take it to a buddies house which is only a couple miles away from the track and take of the valve cover and inspect the best we could.. but nothing visible looked bad or out of place. so then i thought it was probably something minor and decided to drive it home... WRONG!..

well the tapping got really loud to the point it did it during idle and cars behind me could hear it.. so i try to coast it downhills to take load off it and it just CUTS off on me and turns off.. i luckly find a big wide shoulder area where i pulled over and pop the hood to see anything bad but nothin caught my attention. so i go try to turn it on again and NOTHING happens cranks ONE time and thats it..

stuck on the highway 4am and 2 hours later the tow truck guy finally shows up and take me home

now im on here trying to do research so if anyone has an idea of what it could be please chime in.. dont look forward in ripping her apart again

btw block is a fully built 2.0 and head is stock with BC 272 cams

yup sounds like you spun a bearing how is your oil pressure that will reflect it also. the car will barely try to idle and the oil pressure will fluctuate a lot. if you have the car at idle and bring the rpms up slowly and the start getting louder at like 3k or so. you are going to need a new crank and all. hopefully you didnt mess up the rods more by driving it around.

Did you by any chance reuse or flush out and reuse your oil cooler?

Take the oil pan off and you can inspect the bearing.

Exact same thing that happened to me a couple months ago...I'm just finally putting the finishing parts on the build. When mine was knocking, I thought it was the downpipe hitting up against the tie bar or something and then my car would cut out at stoplights.

Wallet took a beating, that's for sure.

Good luck!
