Liqquid FP Black and Pro Efi build

So after finally getting some head gasket issues straightened out (thank you Buschur Racing) I swapped out my old cams for a GSC custom grind which is basically a Jun272 grind. I had to do some high boost pulls with my Evo and get the a/f and timing dialed back in.

The build is pretty straightforward, all wrenching done by me with the exception of the shortblock itself:

2005 Evo GSR
4G63 2.0 bored 0.040 (1mm)
Wiseco HD1400 pistons
BC 625+ rods
Stock Crank
Shortblock assembled by Switzer Performance

Cylinder head hand ported at Switzer Performance
1mm oversize valves
Buschur stainless steel O-rings
Buschur dual valve spring kit with retainers
GSC "Jun272" grind cams
AEM Cam Gears currently 0/0
ARP L19 headstuds

Buschur ported intake manifold
Stock TB
2.5" upper IC piping with Tail "Q" BOV
Buschur LICP
Buschur Race FMIC
FP Black turbo (unported)
FP 25# wastegate

stock exhaust manifold (Unported)
Megan SS O2 housing (a.k.a. the ebay)
Megan 3" downpipe
Megan 3" resonated test pipe
Megan 'new' model 3" catback with additional resonator

Buschur double pumper
FIC 2150 injectors
Fuelabs regulator
GM ethanol content sensor
Pro-Efi Pro128 ECU with Flex-Fuel option
Coil on Plug ignition, M&W box
BPR8ES gapped to .022

The Pro-Efi for the Evo isn't really common but I've seen some members on here ask about it now and then, so I thought I'd make some notes here.. over the last couple years I've learned alot about it from Jason at Pro-Efi, as well as Tym Switzer who specializes in GT-R's and Porsche's now and doesn't do as much Evo work. I've got to say Nick at Buschur's has been pretty persistent on hooking me up with a box they tune there, and seeing some amazing results from Dave tuning an AEM has made that a very tempting thought!

Since I have the Pro128 on the car already (and paid for and have some background on it, I decided for now, to hit the dyno myself rather than risk street pulls, and dial in the new cams. I rented some dyno time from Pure Tuning in Toledo, they have an in ground mustang dyno there and it's reasonably close to home for an awd dyno.

I wanted to share one of the options that makes this ecu unique, the flex fuel feature comes with a GM ethanol content sensor that you install in the return line, and it relates the ethanol content information right to the ECU. To tune the 128, you adjust VE tables, and how much you want to go richer/leaner than stoich for any given point on the map... then, the ECU automatically reads the ethanol content (real time) and calculated what stoich would be for that blend. A/F, timing and boost are automatically adjusted based on what's in the tank. In other words, I don't have to worry about draining the tank or fall blends or getting gas on top of a 1/4 tank of something else, etc. The 128 figures it all in for me.

On to the dyno!

40psi, E85 fuel

I dialed in the AFR's to 12.0 (gasoline equivalent) in the higher load cells for high boost, and 11.5 in the 25-28 psi load cells for when I'm on pump (wastegate is 25 on pump)

multiple pulls

Final numbers are 505/464 on Pure's mustang dyno, rookie mistakes on my end were definitely not having the pull run out to see where power falls off with the Black and these cams, and also should have gotten a 4th gear pull in, all my pulls are 3rd gear.

Out on the road, I wasn't 100% sure on the drive home.. but a couple days later when the temps were back in the 80's, the car is MUCH faster than it ever has been and pulls to redline which is actually kind of a problem right now since I can no longer feel the turbo start to fade before shifting, just taking a while to get used to the new power band!

Here's some random shots:

I'd like to thank a bunch of people who have helped me throughout the daunting task of rebuilding my evo after a stock block disaster destroyed my engine, trans case, radiator, a/c condenser, rear tires, and caused me about 2 years of grief.

Robert at FP, Nick, Jarrod and David at Buschur Racing, Tym at Switzer performance, Greg at GSC, Emery at STM, John Shepherd, Keith at Pure Tuning, Jason at ProEfi, Aby at Mil Spec, Zeus, and anyone else who I may have forgotten (my apologies if so I'm only on cup of coffee 2 this morning so far) I'd also like to thank my friends David Bruzewski and Jarrod Hoops for the continued support and listening to my sometimes endless babbling about Evo's and cars in general

Mods: if this should be in the dyno section instead do what you gotta do

glad to see someone using proefi. Im friends with Ray at PFS here in frederick and he was i guess you would say on the ground level with proefi and jason. I was tempted to go with it for a while. The ethanol content sensor and not having to worry about what gas is in the tank or what im putting in was probably the biggest advantage to me. If AWD dyno availability had been better for him to tune at Id probably have gone with it. If you follow any NSCRA a really good friend of mine (Matt Lennen) runs proefi in his true street supra with a best of 9.0 at 154mph and 8's right around the corner(currently fastest toyota auto supra).

Best of luck to ya man, car looks good.

Thanks guys!

So far so good.. I think I'll try to leave it alone and just drive it for a little while now unless someone has a spare HTA3586 laying around they're not using

Glad to see some people going the pro efi route. Our tuner does a decent amount of pro efi ecu on other platforms (supras, porsche, etc..) Great ecu the flex fuel option is very very nice feature too. Nice results too sir

Thanks! I still have more work to do, right now I'm doing some idle with the a/c on, cranking fuel/cold start E85 and also the overall temperature compensation, so there's more work to be done to make it just right but so far so good and I've also learned a ton along the way!

She's a bit of a pig, full interior no lightweight rotors or driveshaft, a/c and abs, both crash beams are still in.. I drive this thing year round.. I did manage to trap 129 on an HTA green a couple years back so I'm definitely interested to see what this can do

The numbers you posted are already "weather corrected", so what kind of conditions was he talking about on a normal day?

Glad to hear that you're still in the game, look forward to great results

Looking good man. Sorry I haven't had time to give you a call yet. I have been so busy lately.

We'll talk soon!

Get out there and win the stock appearing class this year.

So, from what I've picked up along the way, from talking the issue over with multiple
Shop owners and tuners, the weather correction is accurate for variance in "one" atmosphere, but on forced induction vehicles it does not accurately reflect the "additional" atmospheres we add to the engine. I know this is oversimplifying things but it is the easiest way I can explain what I've been taught about this.

No prob! It's been a couple years now I think since I've even been able to run the car! Looking forward to some Norwalk shenanigans haha

Well it didn't happen yet, I took this thing on a 2600 mile road trip, ran pump gas when there was no E85, had a great vacation.. ended at the DSM Shootout but decided not to race.. I'm going to buy another vehicle to drive and make the decision over the winter on if I want to get more serious for drag racing.. as for now, this is still my only car and I drive it year round also..

I haven't been no lift shifting or anything with this setup yet, haven't gotten the launch dialed in or anything just kind of enjoying the car and some 'spirited driving'.. any nonsense going on has been on a closed course

just a quick mini-pull from a 20/3500rpm 1st gear, rolled into it quickly
