Clutch engages late

Hi,

So I just installed a new exedy twin into my evo. It seems like the clutch engages too far off of the floor and I want to be sure that I am getting full pressure engagement. I've bled the system and there should be no air in it.

Also, this is the 4th clutch on my car. The previous 2 clutches had the same problem.

Has anyone had similar symptoms out of their clutch? Searching did not yield and useful results.

Thanks,

Coming from driving 2 other manual cars to the EVO... my stock clutch engages much further off the floor than I'd like, or I'm used to.

On one of my other cars I had a centerforce clutch that I could engage within an inch, and the other was a pickup truck and it's clutch engaged pretty far out, but the Evo is the worst...

I find myself lurching the car pretty hard sometimes because my leg gets lazy and just lets out the last half of the travel not thinking that the clutch is still biting. I'm sure that clutch pill isn't helping either...

I'd like to know if there's a way to adjust where the clutch engages in the pedal as well?

I havent looked at the Evos but on my AWD DSM you could adjust the master cylinder rod to get the pedal where you wanted it (or pretty close). I would guess the evo has the same adjustment?

How does one go about adjusting that? Does that adjust the pedal travel, or just where/when it engages?

There's a sticky somewhere on here that shows how to adjust the clutch pedal im pretty sure. If you lay on your back and look up at the clutch assembly you will see the rod that comes through a bracket with a jam nut on it. You simply loosen the nut, then adjust the rod which has a flat spot for a wrench to make life easy and then re tighten the jam nut and your done. If I find the how to sticky I will post it for you.

Thats a good FAQ and the link to TRE is great as well (they have an adjustment FAQ on there that's great!) BUT!

This isn't what I was talking about per se. That said... I'm basically whining because I don't like where the clutch engages on the EVO (because I'm not used to it)... while these faqs do enable me to adjust that... that adjustment is to get the pedal to do what its supposed to... which is engage and disengage properly rather than "customizing" where the clutch actually engages.

Thanks none the less though...

Got a question for all you Act clutch owners.... I'm experiencing allot of higher rpm lockout... My clutch pedal adjustment is at about 50 percent thread on both sides of the lock nut. I was just wondering were your pedal is sitting in regards to the percentage based on the lock nut. I have not adjusted it yet. Might tackle that tomorrow..

I hate to keep bringing up my DSM but thats what was heavily modded. I was at about 75% thread on my pedal adjustment, making it longer. What RPM are you having issues? Is it in every gear? From what I have read, the single discs dont like really high RPM shifting and the lockout is pretty common. Could also be the synchros. My DSM used to be able to shift all the way up to 8000RPM, after a while going from 1st to 2nd couldnt be done about 7500 RPM. every other gear was fine though.

It's mostly around 7k. I don't really like revving past that. But in most cases it's the 2 to 3 shift. I know my sycro's are bad for 5th. It grinds no matter what rpm..

It might just be the synchors in 3rd dont like to shift that high. You can also try adjusting your clutch a little to give you a little more throw and see if that helps. Also change the trans fluid if you havent in a while.

My Comp. twin disc does the same thing and I'm having a hard time getting use to it. People keep telling me you'll just get used to it in a week, so maybe some time in the drivers seat will help both of us out

Have you actually tried adjusting the clutch yet? I'm not sure how you can say that it doesn't appear to be the issue when it's a fact. If you want to change the clutch engagement point you adjust that rod, simple as that.
