VTA Stalling Fix...

Ok...I know all about the stalling issues with VTA and our EVO's. Question is how to fix it? I know David from Buschur says the AEM with some sort of setting will totally fix the issue....but what about the people that can't afford that???

Is there a way to fix it using something...ANYTHING at all? Reflash, piggy back..whatever...we would REALLY like to do this because some of us enjoy the sound of VTA over the same BOV recirc. I for one want the performance of the Recirc....but once in a while I want to VTA but REFUSE to deal with the stalling. I picked up an HSK SSQ and sure enough...as soon as I left the driveway...it stalled on me as I came to a stop sign. My forge and my stock one...no problems...except for the stuttering with the forge.

Can anyone help with this, does anyone have any answeres OTHER then you can't do it...won't work...or any flaming???

David...AL...Shiv...input would be appreciated!!!

Thanks
Derek

The only way to get rid of the stalling issues and what not is to eliminate the MAF with the AEM EMS and convert to speed density.

I don't know if it will work for our cars, but a friend and I did it to his eclipse gs-t. We installed a GM Maf right by the throttle body and used a GM Maf translater to hook it up to the factory wiring. It worked really well and they telll you what to set the Maf translater at according to your injector size. Really nice setup and no problems with VTA. No need for an AFC either since the translater does it all for you!!! Just for fine tunning.

yup here u can see a picture of the GM MAF placed just before the TB Elbow. Ramchargers is the one who came up with the "MAF TRANSLATOR" to make a gm maf work on my car, i don't know if they are making one for the evo or not. But since the MAF is reading exactly what is going into the intake manifold, u can vent without any problems.

HKS S-AFR comes with BOV Correction. To have it tune and install is a pain since cost More than the unit itself, unless u know how to tune it and install itself, itd be a different story.

If you want to VTA but want minimal stalling you might want to look at one of those 50/50 BOVs that blows off some of the air and recirculates some. Yeah, the AEM EMS can run your BOV vented, but you have to convert to speed density and get rid of the MAF all together. I dont think it's worth spending $1500 just to get rid of BOV stalling. Also, make sure you dont have the valve on too tight of a setting, that may also be causing some problems.

Check out Works Vent Dual Valve. It's essentially a Go Fast Bits Stealth F/X fully variable VTA to recirc BOV set to their recommended position for the Evo.

Hey man, how's it going? Mine did stall every now and then with it on there. HKS makes a recirc kit for that BOV. I think it is on the Lancer site for like $30.

BTW- still haven't seen the Forge.

If there are no LEAKS the stalling issue is not that bad.

There is no way to compensate for released metered air. After the mass air meter. Your metering device must read after the BOV to properly vent to the atmosphere.
