Intercooler Upgrade

I recently moved across the country and now living in the wonderful world of 91 octane. So, because I was dyno tuned for 93 octane, I am in need of a new tune.

In addition, I have a Buschur Deluxe IC sitting in my garage that I never installed. I am debating whether or not I should get this installed before I get a re-tune or not.

I'm trying to justify if the gains outweigh the costs especially since I do not plan on doing much more modification to the car.

Here is some background on my Evo 8, I have done most every bolt on top of the stock turbo. From TBE to cams to 10.5 hotside to porting/coating of the mani/o2 housing/hotside, I've done most of the typical mechanical mods before moving to more major engine modifications.

So, should I put this intercooler on considering the afore mentioned?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts and opinions

I would. For one going from 93 to 91 you will have more chance of knock and what's an ic do? Well it cools the air to prevent knock.

Thanks for all the replies!

It wasn't a trick question, just was trying to figure out justifying the $350 installation quote versus the added benefit.

I had originally bought the BR Deluxe IC (which they don't make anymore) as part of a future turbo upgrade plan that never happened. It's been a garage decoration for a couple of years already but since I was going to get re-tuned anyways, I was debating whether I should throw on the extra parts I have sitting in the garage or not.

Honestly most places get atleast 100 an hour. So 3.5 hours is not totally unreasonable... Its just not complicated to do yourself. You may have to trim bumper etc..

I agree with the rest of the people in here, i bought the AMS IC and with no mechanical (well, i mean i can unscrew this and that) background was able to put it on it was a bit of a hassle, but if you've done all those other mods, this one will definitely be cake for you. Good luck to your install! and if it'll help in any way, this is my write up: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...p-no-pics.html

350 to install an intercooler is rediculous. the bumper comes off in 10 minutes (without the splash guard at least) and then your only 2 hoseclamps and a couple bolts from finished. Definitely install it yourself.
