from no boost to boost creep wtf?
from no boost to boost creep wtf?
Well I finally got all of my wg problems sorted out and car has been driving fine since until now... its setup to run 26psi on the forge wga and does fine 1st through 3rd. Hits around 25-26 and tapers to 21psi, however yesterday I noticed in 4th gear is a different story.
I went to pass a slow driver and went about 75% throttle in 4th from about 2k rpms. Turbo spooled as it should, heard the dump open. car fell on its face started blowing out the spark, I think, I looked down and the boost gauge needle was bouncing off of 30+psi which is what it maxes at. So I very well could have been way past 30psi.
I know the usual culprit is the hotside of the turbo or the o2 housing, but considering its an 8 turbo with the 9 10.5 hotside and a vta o2 dump im not getting why its creeping. I have a full 3" tbe no cat, vta dump, the larger hotside, cams, intake, head studs, etc etc. Any ideas y its doing it? Could it be the preload on my forge wga? I really don't want to pull the turbo to port the hotside and the vta dump to fix this.
Also a buddy was following me and said it started dumping smoke when the boost was sky high. The car felt like it was sputtering and he said it looked black which would be fuel but it was night so im hoping he was correct. Does that sound right that it would smoke like that when blowing out the spark? The cars still running fine and not overheating and has arp headstuds so im hoping it was just fuel and not lifting the head or blowing the headgasket out.

The cloud of black smoke/ miss fires happened to me when I over boosted to 46psi. I ended up blowing out the insulator of my spark plug.
Check your wastegate. It didn't open due to boost control issues, the actuator, etc.

just pulled the actuator rod off and the flapper is moving freely. No tears in any vacuum lines or anything and im 90% sure the dump opened last night. My first thought was the wg didn't open but a friend riding with me said he heard it open as well I asked him if he did right after it happened.
I guess I should pull the plugs as well and make sure the electrodes and insulators all look ok even tho the car is still running fine other than creeping. Better safe than sorry.

There is no boost cut. The flash done by turbotrix eliminated that. I can understand it cooling off at night now it being a little higher but 1st through 3rd is fine no spiking or creeping it hits and holds 25-26 and tapers to around 21-22psi just in 4th its going to 30+. The needle was literally bouncing off the bottom of the gauge which is no good

Hks evc, but its turned off and not controlling boost. Should I try loosening the preload on the wga down some and turning the controller on and setting it around 26 that way? I had the preload at about 6 full turns from the buckle slipping on and I loosened it down to around 3 turns preload which should only be around 21 psi now. Going to do some pulls in about an hour or so when it cools off that way air temps are close to the same as last night.

Just did a pull 1st through 4th and after loosening the preload 3 turns im still hitting 26psi but no creep in 4th. Im positive I heard the wg open correctly this time I had the windows down. Im going to try again tonight when its cooler to make sure the problem is fixed and that the wg was to preloaded
Mine is breaking up when I get under load and when it misses it blows out smoke like a diesel, assuming it's just because the spark is getting blown out and the fuel isnt getting burned completely and making the smoke. When it doesnt break up I dont see the smoke
Sorry. Maybe you are right. On USDM cars I guess that 5th an overdrive gear. On my JDM RS with the short gear 5 speed, my 5th is equivalent to your 4th. I see 3400 RPM in 5th at 62.5 MPH
