As the title says the smoke is a very light color and can hardly see it only when free reved and on decel and it smells like oil. I did a few tests first a compression test on my 2.3l motor with these results cyl 1&4 145psi and 2&3 125ish 130, forged pistons and not wot when cranking. My next test was a leak down test with good results and could not hear anything crazy from anywhere. On a side note i do have a bit of oil on the intake manifold on the #4 port and the same on the size 14 exhaust bolt at the end. Any ideay that can help me out? Im ready to change all the seals but i dont know if thats a wize idea.

 

I'm betting on rings.

 

Could be valve seals if it's happening under vacuum.

 

i would think its the rings but there pretty new but im really thinking seals also cause it is only under vacuum

 

The most common cause of smoke on decel is valve seals. The high vacuum pulls oil from the head past the seal, and the exhaust puffs blue as soon as you step on the gas.

 

check the turbo.

 

I'm having a potentially similar problem, mainly during trackdays, and I don't know what it could be. Compression is 135-145. Does it look something like this?

yeah thats what it looks like but im not pushing my car like you do at this time but thats it

 

its valve seals. Im guessing you have aftermarket seals. i have ferrea seals and it only does it under vacuum. Pretty sure supertech seals do the same thing. It doesnt cause any harm just annoying.

 

Not to mention it burns off almost half a quart of oil per track day So there's nothing to do to fix this?

 

im sure you can fix it and i have oem valve seals i just got done changing them and to be safe ill change out the rings while im in there. I hade a similar problem like this before but i had low compression causing the smoke but this is a bit different

Are you sure aftermarket valve seals does this? I've seen many cars with aftermarket valve seals that doesn't smoke on deccel, only work out valve seals.

You can clearly see little puffs of white smoke the instant I lift off the throttle. I'm also getting a puff of black smoke when I get back on the throttle. I suspected valve stem seals but the head is currently off the car and my guy said the seals are all seated correctly so I dunno...

 

Its not a "aftermarket valve seal" issue. Its evos with aftermarket valve seals. If you want to fix it, I suggest OEM seals.
