shep trans down shift problems, need opinions?

UPDATE: If im crusing in 5th gear and very slighty try to apply a little pressure towards 3rd gear and then go into 4th it will accept and downshift, meaning i dont necessarily have to put it in 3rd gear all the way but just slightly flex the shifter towards 3rd?

Here's the story with my problem,

Got an evo 8 and i just installed a evo 9 shep trans with ultimate gears (all i did was swap trans and installed a new TOB. I left flywheel and act clutch kit alone didnt touch it)

my problem now is 1st gear is a little bit stiff to get into and also when i try to downshift from 5th to 4th or 3rd to 2nd it will block me out and not let me go in almost as if the gears did not exist.

After taking off every gear upshifts perfect and feels like butter, problem is downshifting

*Im running MT-90 fluid
*I checked and adjusted the clutch
* i bled the clutch system
* Put car on lift and checked for wheel spin while depressing clutch pedal and in 1st gear
Everything checks out ok

if the car is turned off and i push the clutch all gears feel smooth, if i turn the car on and try to put it in 1st its hard to get into gear

I only experienced this issue ever since the trans was swapped. Not my first time doing a evo tranny btw, im stumbled any ideas?

Sounds like sychroes possibly. Did you buy the tranny new or used? I would just send it back to Shep for him to look over it.

To clarify, when the car is at a standstill with the engine on, it's hard to get it into gear? That means it isn't synchros I think, because they only come into play when the gears are turning.

yes if the car is running at a stand still and i depress clutch and put it in 5th gear for instance and drop to 4th and keep repeating its process it will block me out as well i have to keep going back and forth

I somewhat have/had the same issue, but it seems to be getting better. I installed my trans over the winter, but didn't have the chance to put on some miles since I blew the motor. Since putting some miles on the car, it seems to be getting better.

How many miles do you think are on the trans?

Also, you running a short shifter or stock shifter?

Interested to see what others suggest. Wonder if it has anything to do with the Ultimate Ratio version since it has 8 and 9 gears in it. I went with the ultimate ratio as well.

Also, yes mine does the same that when the car is off it glides through the gears like butter, but when under load, it's not as smooth. Almost notchy.

If the clutch is disengaging like you say, this usually points to a transmission issue

Call Shep and report back as to what he thinks..

I had this problem recently, wouldn't downshift to 4th gear from 5th, had to tap 3rd then goto 4th when downshifting from 5th. It would upshift just fine, but downshifting into 4th was nearly impossible unless I went from 3rd back to 4th.

Took the trans apart and the 3/4 shift fork was worn to hell, replaced the fork and walla, it would downshift like a dream. Not sure if this is your problem, but it sure sounds like a worn fork.

Wouldn't a worn fork still be a problem shifting with the engine off?
