running in a not so new engine
Breaking in a not so new engine
Hi,
I realize there is a window of opportunity to break in a new forged engine at the very beginning....but is it still possible to achieve this later by using a semi synthetic oil / mineral oil to promote some wear?
The engine was broken in as per the builders instructions (which were pretty blase compared to some techniques I have read afterwards) and then switched over to synthetic motul.
Thanks in advance.

Yes I have been running a full synthetic since break in....but can you initiate some wear with a semi synthetic later on if you believe the break in was less than adequate?
ie will glazed bores stay like that forever or eventually break in as an engine wears?

Yeah, youre overanylzing and thinking it, when first run an engine the cylinders have a "rough" pattern on it from being honed, when the rings ride up and down it "seats" or kinda like wears together. Either way if you went to a non synthetic its not going to do anything, just keep running synthetic. If you think something is wrong just do a compression and leakdown test then you will know if you have a ring seating issue or something else but just dont guess and assume its from something if you dont know for a fact.
